not gonna be a point buying 1 of these for year or so when they come out all games released in the near future wont be dx11 as theyve been production for a year or 2

Think I kinda know what u mean.

Many people still use XP for a reason relating to their favorite game/game co. still don't know what dx10 is all about.

Too much dependancy on game-engines to be the backbone of the games being created. If some1 like Unreal decided to keep their dx10 engine in-house and lease out dx9 only still, the situation would be that much worse.

Even tho there are many using XP, dx10 and Vista have almost breezed their way in to being a standard (prior to Win7 ofc). U buy new gear, u go for dx10/Vista just because it's the latest thing to that point.

Next year or so, as u say, dx11/Win7 will be the latest thing when a new gear purchase is made.

I'm not so sure it would be on the basis that all the games coming out are dx11 tho.

I can almost guarantee u that next year, game installs will still be asking u to install dx9 hooks.

Buying dx11 as it comes out, just cos it's come out.. not necessarily a smart move - unless as I say ur buying new gear anyway.

A little birdie tells me that by the end of 09 we will see some ATI DX11 cards knocking about for just over £100 :)

im defo gunna be picking up on the new ATI and Nvidia DX11 range of cards, i just like too be future proof tbh  and trust me if you go ATI they wont be expensive its ati for goodness sake :p £70 can get you a 4850 these days and thats more then enough in most cases

Buy a 5870 (or whatever) and by the time the games come out (not 1 or 2) the 6870 is about to come on the scene ?

i wont be buying the cards souly on the DX11 ill be buying them just too have pure brute force enabling too beat my current scores on 3dmark06 - vantage etc

I doubt they will be that much more expensive just because of dx11. Of course the new cards are more expensive than the older generation, but you also pay for the newness and performance increase.

To be honest I'll probably be buying a hd5870 a few months after release, which would be around january. That way my HD4850 has lasted me more than a year which I think is excellent.

While I wouldn't consider buying a DX11 card for the sake of playing DX11 hits, I would do so for better performance in current hits. I for one will be hoping to see a midrange DX11 graphics card that performs similarly to the GTX 260 / HD 4870 but with a much lower power consumption and heat output. :)

I'm going to get one of ATi's DX11 cards, but that's because I am in dire need of a GPU upgrade; I'm still using an 8800GT.

From what I've seen, I'm bloody impressed with the 5870. It beats the 4870X2 in most games... that's really, really impressive for a single GPU card, nothing will be able to touch it until nVidia release their GT300 series, but they're going to be priced similar to the G80 series when they came out: high.

I think, apart from the super-wealthy, ATi will take this round.
