any difference in picture quality between the above? looking a new monitor and wondering whether to be looking specifically for DVI

since DVI is newer tecnology, i presume the difference would be better refresh rate, clearer screen e.c.t, e.c.t altho it cant bee too different as you can buy DVI - VGA converters...

There's a hands down difference. DVI pwns d-sub right in the ass. D-sub allows foe higher refesh rates in most instances on tft monitors but the clarity of the dvi connection more than makes up for the small refresh rate difference.

Dvi all the way davos.

also dvi is digital. using the dvi out of a video card to a dvi in of a monitor is digital to digital, the smallest amount of signal degradation possible. using vga you convert the digital signal from you vid card, convert it to analog to travel through the analong vga cable, and then back to digital which causes degradation, or fuzziness.

that is an example of why hdmi is better than component... but hdmi is the successor to dvi and component also does the dig-ana-dig conversion so the pictures give a decent example of what happens. DVI IS SUPERIOR... IT WAS CREATED BECAUSE VGA WAS NOT SUFFICIENT. so far from what i can tell in video connection standards the newer the better....

what kind of new moniter are you going to be purchasing mate?

I never even a notice between vga and dvi but I have dvi so who cares :rollingla

its newer so always get the newest ;) and yes, what are you getting dav0s

omfg that is so true.. my home monitor is a dell 2005fpw i got for 500 something on ebay... It takes some getting used to from CRT... It ghosted for about 10 minutes... I suppose because it had never been run.. but after that it beats my old princeton crt hands down...... crt may be better but not enough to justify the space they take.... it allowed me to RECLAIM MY DESKSPACE... Dr. Setite prescribes 9 nights of reading reviews till your brain hurts... I did more than that for my monitor, and I am glad I did... I always think that price hunting is necessary.. and a little splurging because 100,200,300 more... often shows in ways that outlast the cost....

To the average guy its usuallyimpossible to telll the difference as the convertion to digital is so good So if one is offered an unbeatable price for a 15 pin then one would be foolish to not to seriously consider it.
