DVI-D Vs HDMI

Just wanted to know which is better quality, i have a 1080p monitor would it make a difference which output i use on my graphics?

If available, we recommend HDMI. This is not because it is any better then DVI, only because the industry will heavily push HDMI due to the HDCP Digital Rights Management technology. However you should not expect any difference when moving from DVI to HDMI, therefore if you have DVI already, stick with it until the next standard comes around. A little off topic, but still of relevance is that you may be able to get similar quality video by using your existing Component connections. A common misconception is that Component cannot carry HDTV quality video, which is incorrect. Depending on the components in your system you may get the same or better performance with a Component connection then with a HDMI or DVI connection.

hmm i see, thanks for that. everyone i know keep on telling me Dual-Link DVI is the best they never can backup what they say but i guess there wrong.

I could be wrong myself but seen as that bit of information I found says there is no difference in the signal then i'd say it doesn't make a difference. Do a bit of research just incase, or maybe someone else here knows a bit more about it.

both the same just hdmi has sound too.

use which ever suits your needs but your normally best using a setup with the least cables to keep everything in sync.

AFAIK, dvi-sub does not support 1920x1080 or 1280x720 (16::9)

they support 4::3 native resolutions instead

eg: 1800x1200 instead of 1080p and 1024x768 instead of 720p

For your 1080 resolution, neither will be "better" than the other.

dvi port on card to dvi port on a monitor will retain 1080 (no audio), as DVI was derivary to HDMI.

but many people fix a dongle to the DVI port and use 14-pin monitor cabling. this reduces the signal to Generic Monitor.

and if they fix a HDMI dongle to it, the result is the same - they will not get FullHD

but nobody said anything about adaptors or vga cables, hdmi was made by taking dvi and adding coax digi audio to it (as you said) so other than it having audio hdmi is the same as dvi.

it gets more complicated when you start to talk about dvi d as it doubles the bandwidth and that means it supports higher res. so high its more than any screens we can buy and in turn making it better but for 1080 they are both the same.

Just remember DVI-D doesn't "mean" Dual-Link, it "means" digital only. You can have DVD-D Single Link.

it still makes no difference at 1080.

Indeed, it only really comes into play if you want to go 2560x1600+ or over long cable distances - arguably.
