Ducky DK9008 Shine - Keyboard Review

Hello there, I do believe that this keyboard is brilliant and I will enjoy using it for a long time.

The keyboard I am talking about is a Ducky DK9008 Shine or ‘Shining’. My keyboard is using red LED backlighting and Cherry MX Blue key switches, the sound they produce is wonderful.

The Ducky DK9008 Shine is a fully mechanical keyboard with premium features at a relatively low price point. When purchasing this keyboard you are given the choice of key switch and backlight colour you would like. This keyboard feels extremely high quality and has quite a bit of weight to it due to the metal plate build into the keyboard.

The Ducky DK9008 Shine keyboard comes with a couple extra things in the box, a standards USB 2.0 to Mini USB cable (this is because the cable is not attached to the keyboard), a bag containing four extra keycaps (red WASD keycaps), a key puller (keycap removal tool), a USB to PS2 adapter (this is for N-Key rollover) and the user manual.

The backlighting on the Ducky DK9008 Shine is absolutely outstanding and can be changed on-the-fly, using the included lighting profiles: Game Mode (ESC, WASD, Space and up-down-left-right arrows are lit), 60% (All but the number pad is lit), 100% (entire keyboard is lit) and Pulsating Mode (The backlight pulsates between the highest and lowest brightness levels).
The Ducky DK9008 Shine features a few ‘Media shortcut keys’, the keys can be seen below.

On the bottom of the Ducky DK9008 Shine there is a ‘DPI switch’, this switch allows you turn off certain features of the keyboard. (Refer to the user manual guide).

If you have been looking for a mechanical keyboard with great looks, elegant and simple layout and multiple keyboard lighting functions. then this may just be the perfect keyboard for you! As mentioned before, you are given the option of which key switch and backlighting colour is used in the keyboard and it won’t cost you a penny more!

For the money, this keyboard has seriously impressed me and I would recommend it to anyone that asks.

Not a bad review but a couple of points you've missed that I find seriously annoying (they've been sorted with the later revision) are-
1. After you shut your PC down the keyboard will remain illuminated in the state it was while you were using it. (I use mine on PS2 not sure if this makes a difference)
2. It doesn't remember the illumination settings you were using last time the machine was powered on (In my case that requires 8 key presses to get it back to fully illuminated max brightness)

I'm using a shining with the blue key switches as well, it's a good keyboard and far far better than the lycosa I was using before.

Hmm, that does sound annoying. There appears to be no issues with my one, it powers down with the machine and keeps the previous light mode in memory.

I'm using the keyboard on USB as I don't press enough keys at once to require using N Key rollover.

I use mine on PS2 and it stays lit up, I only use it on ps2 so that I can use ctrl+esc to power on the pc. The Ducky 2 solves this since it has memory on board.

Wow, it looks wonderful, good set of accesories. I have never used a mechanical keyboard before, my current one is 5 years old and I didn't pay more than 2 euros for it. The LED lightning looks really nice. Perfect enthusiast keyboard.

It is indeed a brilliant keyboard, the tactile feel you get with every key press and the satisfying click from the Cherry MX Blue Switches is wonderful.

I would recommend a mechanical keyboard as many keyboard enthusiast say they make you type faster and because of the tactile feel, you know when you have actually pressed the key.
