hi there

what in your opinion would be a nice single tower cooler for use on a dual socket xeon board (lga 2011)?

probably going for the E5-2643 high clock quads....don't now yet. 130W TDP each.

so far I know TTL was impressed with the NZXT Havik 140...what alternatives should i consider (despite of watercooling)?

best regards

It also depends alot on how far the sockets are physically away from each other, a pair of H100's might work well?

TBH - xeons on a dual mobo will not be overclocked to the point where large coolers are needed

plus, there is not much choice for 2011-compatible single-tower cpu coolers

EDIT: also, if buying retail xeons, i would stick with the stock coolers (that come with them) until you can upgrade to full watercooling

I think it will all depend on the board. The SR-X above, for example, the CPU slots are side by side. Whereas I've seen a couple or the Intel boards that are slightly more offset. Space will be dependent on RAM configuration too it seems.

E5's dont support ANY overclocking....... on any board.

They dont get hot though, Ive got 4 here atm and heat is not a problem

I was talking asthetics rather than the cooling need. If they fitted on the SR-X a couple of the RED Phanteks would look awesome

ummmm - no

it could never happen

...and if someone put single tower coolers on a dual-socket mobo - they are being utter noobs
