driver stopped responding and has recovered...again!

As the title suggests been routinely getting `nvidia driver stopped responding error....` whilst playing battlefield 3.

I`ve googled this and looks like its a common problem. I have cured it by increasing the voltage and sticking to the 310.54 drivers.

However just wanted to say i`ve never overclocked my cards and its unacceptable by asus and nvidia to sell a product that doesnt perform to its specs.

I`m so tempted to RMA my cards as they still have 2 yrs left on their 3 yr warranty.

As a battlefield nut its double-adrenalin rush time now when playing bf3! lol

Sounds like mis-installed drivers more so than hardware issue. and you can't blame nvidia or asus for that buddy.

Clear them off properly, driver cleaner etc, and do a proper custom install and don't include any of the crap. Almost ALL of the bf3 issues are solved by sorting out your software installs.

It took literally months to stop the battlelog whinging of people who had no idea what 'stable system' meant when bf3 crashed, even now it's still full of 'bf3 is crap' threads just because they're too ignorant to actually fix it... Believe me 99.9% of the problems get solved by sorting your software :P

Have you ever upgraded the firmware on that card? There have been several updates since release which will likely address the problem if you haven't yet.

Checked the ASUS website and there has been no bios update for the card.
As for mis-installed drivers well i doubt tht as I did a clean WIn 7 install and bf3 crashed right off of the bat with 310.90 drivers. Got an instant black screen
I`ve had to lower the default clock from 782 to 752 mhz and it runs fine. As I have a SLI set-up I dont really mind the lower clocks.
Also if I overclock to 900mhz@ 1.15v Im fine but end up having heating issues (high rpm noisy fan speeds) so prefer the underclock.
Nvidia drivers are truly broken and I`m not the only one. Thnk God I`ve cured the prob as there are people out there who can`t even play bf3 anymore.

Just because it's a fresh install doesn't mean you did it properly, the broken part of the nvidia drivers is the installer.

They really aren't as broken as you seem to think, it's just that the only people shouting and crying about it are those that can't / won't or don't have the expertise or patience to fix it.

Did you install using the 'default easy peasy' mode or did you cherry pick just the driver ?

i had this with amd too,the hd 4890 ,and other friends has this too.doesnt matter if nvidia/amd.i think it may be from windows.i donno

Thnks for reply everybody.

Yes I did install the driver only and clean install method was checked.
One thing I must say is tht I had no probs whatsoever with nvidia drivers until I decided to use ASUS TWEAKER. Once I had tried overclocking they were never the same.
Even without ASUS TWEAKER installed bf3 screen freezes....
I am not a novice and have been making custom computers for 15 yrs and currently have three machines and only one of which gives me this prob.
I have a matrix edition 580 in the other machine and two 560ti`s in the other and i have never incurred this prob.
It appears this prob is prone to DX11 rendering and I`m not a programmer but it wouldn`t be amiss if they`ve eeked out every last drop of perf from these cards at the expense of stablity.
Sub i think you`ve got to agree people are genuinely having this prob even though they`ve installed everything correctly.
I dont mean to give any company bad publicity as it appears the AMD camp have this prob too.
I prob wont change my drivers for awhile now and start separately downloading the SLI profiles instead for fear of never being able to play anything.
Lets hope the next gen of cards have better drivers as im not touching the 6 series, esp the 660ti

Not calling you a novice Kully, just come across this issue a lot. And almost every time I've seen driver crashing issues, it's down to the install. nVidia's driver installer needs some work as it can be the root of a lot of issues I've found. The fact that as you say, it was fine before, and now isn't sounds like software, more so than hardware which is why I was concentrating on that :)
