does this hobby ever make you sick

Hey dudes. So as the title says. Have you ever made you sick upon realising how much you have spent etc. I did a rough calculation there and I missed out things like psu monitor keyboard mouse and other bits and bobs. So not including all those things my total for Flynn 2.0 is over

3200 POUNDS. EXCLUDING ALL THOSE ITEMS. I FEEL SICK. my sister is looking at me in disgust. If I was to tally up everything id say its about 4k.

No, because money is money, it doesn't phase me. I enjoy what I do and I like playing games, sleeving, modding etc, its fun, you can't put a price on soothing that makes you happy.

I'm the same with my fishing gear, I had 2Ks worth of rods and reel for carping, all the bivvy and accessories another 2K, a couple of K sea fishing, boat, coarse gear. Who cares, I like the time I have when I'm off doing it, its relaxing, you can't but a price on escaping for a few hours.

But 4k. That doesnt fall off trees. I mean I love games and tech. Always have but I could have went to the states for a few months and partied mormon style or bought a type r. I get what you mean saying that you cant put a price on your little corner of heaven but maybe I should have went a little more mojang than crytek lol.

No it doesnt.

Im not rich or something, but isnt your hobby exactly the thing where you spend your extra money ?

Im starting to ride motorbike this year and hell, computer is kinda cheap as a hobby (in comparison).

Money is there to spend mate, but you can only spend it once :)

At the time you obviously wanted a new computer more than to go to the States or buy a Type R. Besides, you've spent your money one bit at a time. With a trip to the States you would spend it all in one go and eventually have nothing left but memories :p

I'll probably spend more on my new system than I should but I enjoy building systems, messing around with them, playing games and doing my editing stuff. It'll cost me an arm and a leg but it's there to stay and I can always sell it and get a bit of money in return whenever I'm growing out of it.

Bottomline; Spend your money on what you like, Carpe Diem (feels hipster now )

Well you can EASILY play all the latest games with a set up costing 1K so why don't just just get something like that then?

I've spent loads of money on my rig already. In fact I've spent so much that it borders on real madness. The best part is I'm not finished yet. And I'd wager that I will never be truly finished. But in the end I don't regret it one bit. Not even a shadow of a doubt. Of course when I ran the numbers on my rig I found it hard to fathom, to be fair. Over $6,500 USD in the last six months if I include everything attached to my system! However, that pales in comparison to some of the other things that I've done in this life.

That's just a small part of what hobbies are. People need something to pursue in life to be satisfied, happy or to just fill in the gaps. You can't put a price on stuff like that.

In short yes, It does make me feel sick.

When i think of the things i could of spent money on instead. And the depreciation on these rigs is horrific.

So yes, it make me sick just thinking about it. I have a good pc though!

Not at all, like PEXON has said you're not really wasting your money if it's being spent on something you enjoy (i.e. your hobby)

back in 2008 when i got my q6600 9800gtx etc i spent over £1500 and felt sick my case was £200 alone ill never pay that for a case again, but at the time i was heavy into pc gaming playing cod battlefield crysis etc.

6 months later i think it was gta4 came out and i could barely run it... then came the core i5's/7's for less than i paid for my q6600 just got too much and well my wife only let me have so much for a new pc every 5 or so years.

The way I think of it is that whatever money I'm spending, I'm getting good use out of whatever I'm buying. I could easily have spent the money on a console and a cheap laptop but I much prefer my games on the pc and the ability to make my computer exactly how I want it is something I appreciate. Hard drive dies? Get a new one without replacing the whole computer. Same with any other component.

Next to the cost of so many other things, my outlay on computer and tech stuff is surprisingly low compared to many other things I could spend my money on. Better spending it on computer parts than smokes and booze (although beer does have its places)

Mantra is- get exactly what you want out your money or just don't bother spending it at all. Go by that and it should be a rare occurrence that you regret spending it.

Absolutely not! I started playing guitar not too long ago, and a good beginner's set cost me £300. It's a lot for a teenage boy like me, but I enjoy doing it

Hold on a second chaps. This is 4k we are talking about. This isnt an aria superspecial value game bundle im talking about. Do I get a great deal of joy out of building the thing yea as since childhood I have been a notorious tinkerer. So getting a new cheaper hobby isnt a solution as I love tinkering
and games. Maybe I should have worded the op as do you ever get immense buyers remorse. I bought a pair of expensive kangaroo leather shoes for sunday for 100 quid cos they where the only ones that fitted my abnormally wide feet and was gutted that I paid for a pair of shoes. And the next time I build a ckmouter it shall be as bonkers again and I shall love building it and usi g it but that aint gonna change the fact that its a truck load of money. Do you understand.

If it makes you sick, then stop doing it. It's as simple as that.

I've never had buyers remorse, as I thoroughly research the parts I'm getting before I order them.

HeHe If I was lucky enough to have 4k laying around, I'd probably be spending a big majority of it on my rig, and I'd love every minute of it :)

I've had regrets about certain items I've bought at certain times...but over all, I never truly regret what I spend on my baby. This machine help's me make money, it entertains me with video games, movies, music and daily tid-bits online. So in the end, my computer is probably the thing I will continually invest the largest sum of my income on. well that, my cellphone bill and of course food.

Compared to my foremost joy in life, sportfishing........ 4K worth of gear is just a silly little number.
Hell, I´ve got end-gear for fishing worth way more than that :fish:

Moral: Stick to gaming - its dirt cheap
