I heard rumours of this. Glad it is true.
Now to await in depth reviews on Ryzen, as an AMD enthusiast I am scarred from the previous "hype" :D
 
I posted a pic of what appeared to be AM3 holes yesterday guys. Think it was in quick news?

I did see that, but remember that this news was posted on the 21st.

Very exciting to see ASUS support those mounts, such a shame that more motherboard makers didn't do the same.

Yeah I know. I couldn't find the original thread.

Glad to see it's 100% true though. Some WC companies are charging like £20 for a new CPU top thing and most are not even doing them. So if you have a water block you are laughing :)

If I ever do shove Ryzen into Dianoga I know that I am buying the CH6. My Chinese water block will never fit AM4.

Edit. Mine was nowhere near as good as that one Tom. In mine you could barely make out two different holes under the plastic bracket thing.
 
Thats great news for people with earlier AMD aftermarket coolers btw if anyone has an XSPC Raystorm waterblock I have a brand new AM3 mounting kit that they can have for free as I have no use for it :)

Was just thinking if Ryzen performs better with better cooling, I may dig out my raystorm and the 480 rad still have the HAF x for it to go in

Give it water, it's an 8 core 16 thread chip. That means it will get hot fast.

Will be a whole different animal under water man.

Edit just to be transparent and honest. I just shot Tole a PM about the Raystorm top. I was going to try and fit it over my Chinese cooler's metal plate. However, if any one needs it more than me I am glad to rescind my PM and let it go to them :)

Edit. Won't fit any way.

I have money to one side for CPU, Board and Ram just hoping it meets the hype.
Will be great to finally see some competition.

That will be interesting to see how it performs under water we will know very soon. I know 1 person that has pre-ordered Ryzen and the Asus Crosshair V1 mobo and has a custom loop

It will need proper water to shine. 8 cores and 16 threads are a beast unto themselves tbh. Even if you don't get any higher overclocks your temps and noise will be at a minimum.

My 8c 16t Xeon is quite lame in comparison (3.2ghz) but I tell you man having it under a nice fat 240 rad with a proper block (EK) and a big res means I can run 600 RPM fans. The whole rig is barely audible it's just lovely.

Compare that to my all AIO rig with fans that run up to 2400RPM?

Yeah, you can sorta understand I have not fired up the "Typhoon" in quite a while.
 
One thing I am curious about though with this new setup. It used to be 65C+ on AMD CPU's and damage was being done. Intel could run right to its shutdown point.

So when I get it installed, until more is known, I will plan on using around 65C as a hard stop on temps.

Welcome to 8 core computing I guess man. The more cores you got the hotter they get much faster.

Also remember, that 65c was the TIN temp or package temp. I would imagine the actual temp could have been higher. Mine used to tank at 72c. Forget clock speed, forget volts, forget everything else. As soon as it went over 72c the rig hard locked. Some reported getting as high as 78c, so it was a lottery really.

One thing I did notice the other day... Some one posted a screen shot of Ryzen under LN2. The multi pretty much remained still, and they had cranked on the FSB.

So it is looking like a repeat of Vishera.
 
I'll be honest, it's been a long time since I have owned an AMD rig. The last one I had was a 1050T, with a turd MSI board with a major bios flaw they would not fix. The thing that sticks out in my mind was you got CPU degradation at that 65C temp. It may have been a package temp, but at that time they did not have the diode's like Intel in their chips.

He is referencing the fact that those CPUs did not have proper thermal readouts and reported them differently than intel, so you could not get an accurate reading. So when OC'ing, you were kinda going blind...

Where the multi was all but useless and the best way to clock was via the FSB.

And yeah, what NBD says also. You were going blind and had to literally learn the thermal limit of the CPU yourself.
