I was more referring to your blanket statement of, "if it gets radio play, it's mainstream."
All of Disturbed's music sounds alike (not Nickelback alike though where every song is the same damn thing), but that's a good thing. I'm not not going to like something just because it's popular. That's the popular thing to do it seems. (Looks at all the Apple haters). I also like fried chicken and gorgeous women.

I honestly can't name any of my favorite death metal bands that have sold out and made some whack ass shitty song just for radio play so people would know their name. That's what sellouts do, some bands are actually interested in making the music that their fans want to hear instead of the size of their wallet. Music before money!
I definitely wouldn't consider Disturbed a sellout band though. Not sure why you are lumping them in with that.
I really do hate it though when bands do that. As long as the whole album doesn't take that direction I don't care though. I used to love Smash Mouth in high school. F-bombs and hilarious, now they are nothing like they used to be. Nothing but bubble gum pop garbage now.

Lol, Disturbed make the music they want to make, and that's it. Just because it isn't a wall of noise, there isn't uncontrollable screaming and a tuning dropped so far you cant hear it, doesn't mean it isn't metal. They are a melodic metal band (yes such things exist).
If you class Disturbed mainstream, then you're just lumping together a lot of bands there which you can hear in their influences, stuff like Pantera and Metallica. Mainstream sounds like everything else, yet when I listen to a Disturbed song, it always sounds like Disturbed, even when they do covers. Really you don't get mainstream metal, you get mainstream Pop, and Hip Hop.

It's mainstream, it gets radio play, simple as that. Anything that gets radio play has to be acceptable for infants and bleeding vag's......

Firstly, The Acacia Strain is a Death Core band, not Metal. It's a subgenre of two forms of other subgenres of metal, so please, we are talking about completely different music here. Same goes with Kataklysm, they are Death Metal, again a subgenre of Metal.
Given, they are not mainstream, why? Because they won't have enough people wanting to listen to it on the radio. Simply saying that getting radio time makes you mainstream is silly, how many times do you hear metal songs being played on the radio? Like general radio? (Radio 1 etc) Very rarely. For Instance, Led Zeppelin had loads of radio time, but are regarded as the first Metal band, are they mainstream? I think not. Same goes for Judas Priest and Black Sabbath, even Metallica (who are actually thrash metal).

No, simply the reason good metal bands don't get radio play is because the networks can't play their music for all of the baby ears that actually listen to the radio. One of the most popular satellite radio stations here in the states is dedicated to GOOD metal.

Common Frag... be nice.. I do like the above bands in the above videos and Disturbed.. plus.. it doesn't matter what genre's music comes from as long as you like it.

Lol, Nu-Metal.
I love disturbed, they just sound good to listen to. Nothing makes a band "good" or "bad" its what you prefer. Persoanlly i'd much rather listen to the sound of disturbed than "good" metal bands who just scream (not sing) and wanna kill their parents etc. etc.
I mean I do like some song like that (chimera power trip is a classic lol) but for actual listening i prefer something like disturbed personally. I dont get into the whole "I listen to heavier music than you therefore you are a pussy" thing, hell if i like the new lady gaga single then so be it
But thats just me, i like all types of music and just get irritated by the whole "X has gone mainstream, they now suck, im gonna listen to Y whilst nobody knows about them, and when they go mainstream, ill move on" lol
and as for nu-metal, cant beat a bit of limp bizkit

+1 mrapoc. I like a huge range of music, and it really is what you prefer. And radio time doesn't mean mainstream, it means (for rock and metal anyway) that you have lots of fans! XD

That only applies to pussy metal. 10 billion people could love cannibal corpse but they don't have a single radio friendly song. You have to have baby ears music to get radio play.
