Do you remember when

XP was reasonably new
Graphics cards were probably PCIe 1x or AGP

Well I have an old Dell running XP that I am using to run some old and well loved games - and my memory just ain't that good - I can't remember what was in then

What sort of graphics cards were good then. The dell came with an ATI of some description - but I am looking for something that used to be fairly high end at the time but with XP drivers

Any ideas?

I remember when GPUs were ISA, and colour was a luxury !

I remember it taking 10 minutes to load a simple game through a tape!

As for the video card, i would probably smack a geforce 2 in there, sounds about right for the era, or at a stretch just chuck a geforce 4 ti 4200 in.

I remember when (1982, while I was still in high school) I signed up for a weekend FORTRAN programming course at the local university, and they let us keep the programs we wrote on 8" floppy diskettes.

Ahh the days of copying a program from a PC mag to input on my ZX Spectrum for it not to work. It took me a week to program and another 4 days to go through each line of code to find the errors normally correcting syntax.

Yup, old skool typos :D

How do you think I felt? I never had the return sound feed wired up from my speccy, so I could spend a whole day inputting code only for the speccy to freeze after about ten hours lol. If I wanted to play a game from code I could only play it once for every set of coding.

Amazing the patience I had back then. I guess because there was no internet and TV was only good at weekends !

Lol done it on a ZX81 :)

I had an ATI 9600 AGP 128MB which seemed pretty good for my 1400x1050 gaming laptop. So for high end either an ATI 9700/9800 XT or from nvidia the Geforce 5950 Ultra.

I found an Asus EN7300GT passive card that seems to do the job. Its got DVI - which the previous dual card didn't have - so it works with my KVM Switch. Seems to do the job respectably and doesn't require extra power

My scores were awesome, the ships all spawned at the same point in the skybox so once you figured that out it was just a case of holding the fire button for epic scorez lol
