Do I Overclock?

My rig -
FX - 6100
Biostar TA970
Noctua NH-U12P SE2
Sapphire R9 270X OC+Boost
XFX PRO XXX 650W PSU

Should I overclock my CPU?
Will I get any real performance gains?
I have already had it OC'ed at around 4GHz @ 1.4V but I was having problems with some programs and as a last ditch attempt I had to clear the CMOS so I lost my overclock.

Cheers Guys

Because it wasnt stable. You have to put the time in to get it right. If you want a 5 minute thing to do then overclocking wont be for you.

Is there any sort of rule of thumb when it comes too voltage though?
I have heard some people saying with the Zambezi FX chips 1.5V should be the upper limit that you should go to as it could kill the CPU after a short while... I don't know if that's bull or not.

Temps are the main thing, but that also all depends on what temp monitoring program you use.

FX chips can get insanely hot with volts but 1.45 - 1.5 is ok if you have a GOOD cooler. All depends if your cpu needs it. Its about more than just cpu volts and multiplier with AMD You have a lot more to play with and set up hence me telling you its not a 5 minute thing.

Yes you should, the VRMs on your board are actually cooled - which is always a good start, also the FX chips are actually decent OCers :)

Yeah, anything which taxes your CPU rendering/gaming will see increases following the trend of how much you OC.

As Tom said, it wasn't stable = it needed more volts. Keep the chip under 72 degrees and you should be golden :)
