Diy Ssd ?

2x16gb CF cards = ~£180, that thing for ~£100 = £280 for a 32gb SSD...

Still not worth it IMO. £1 per GB and I'll be interested, so no SSD's for me for a looooong tiiiime.

Nice find Rast, I'm sure some will be interested. Maybe get one in for a review?

Seems a bit costly for what on the face of it looks like an adaptor. But it maybe more than an adaptor hardware wize. Think it takes 3 cards, and rumored raid things.

Pfft, get one in tbh :p

Yep, u only wanna spend that much for a 1:1 adaptor, u get similar things for usb connections `n` stuff.

I still reckon there`s another lean to the electronics to the one in the OP, I`m sure it`s raid over 3 or something.

(if I could get the freakin site to come back up I`d look further)

CF cards have a limited amount of read/writes before they die :(

Also, you can get those adapters on ebay for 50p...

There's no mention of Raid, in fact the details are less forthcoming than the ebay ones :)

Also I cannot see how it would manage to do raid, apart from transparently, as at the end of the day it plugs into a SATA interface. Surely if you wanted raid, you'd use 2 single adapters?

You dont really buy them for reliability though, You'd use these in a noise/power consumption sensitive build, i.e. laptop or media centre :)

I've got an ssd in my Eee. Don't really see what the fuss is all about, I guess it helps keeps the size of it all down. Not supposed to have a swap/page file with ssd's either as it wears them out faster due to the limited write transactions you can do.

Well, thats still a bit poor.

Even so, i may get ssd some point this year, keep the swap file on my raptors and it should fly still :)

Even HDs have their limits. So you cant be all negative on that side of getting one of these. Its like a fan has only a certain amount of hours it will spin then it will die. But you see that keeping people away. HDs and SSDs are the same way. Either way, if you have the money to buy one of these in the first place you really wont care.
