It's a Chinese Government owned piece of spyware.
If you want sanity returned... the entire social media network needs to be brought to heel. Not just tik tok.
Lol thats hilarious. The rest I agree, but cmon... this comment alone puts you into the paranoid pool of dimwits. Facebook/Google/Twitter etc etc leak far more information than tiktok
The issue not normal america but "stupid america" (yes im stereotyping to make a point), the people that believe everything they see on social media, as the reason for society collapse.
Yes its the almost the same the world over, but its sad that America influences the world in a far more detrimental way than any other country.
If you want sanity returned... the entire social media network needs to be brought to heel. Not just tik tok.
X and facebook are responsible for such stupidity involving fake news that I honestly wonder if there are trolls somewhere making it up not for a hidden agenda, but simply to see who is dumb enough to take the bait. And sadly.. this tik tok spyware paranoia just proves the point.
If people of power are stupid enough to have social media apps of ANY kind on their phone while in the presence of other persons of power during confidential meetings and the likes.. you deserve everything that comes in regards to leaked information.
TikTok has admitted that it used its own app to spy on reporters as part of an attempt to track down the journalists’ sources, according to an internal email.
There are more stories as well, but anything software or hardware linked with the Chinese Government more than likely has something in it, that will allow them to take all the information from your phone or other devices and send it back to them.
“The problem with TikTok isn’t related to their ownership; it’s a problem of surveillance capitalism and it’s true of all social media companies,” computer security expert Bruce Schneier told The Intercept. “In 2016 Russia did this with Facebook and they didn’t have to own Facebook — they just bought ads like everybody else.”
Your average voice-over-internet call takes something like 24 kbps one way, which amounts to about 3 kBs of data per second. Assume you've got your phone on half the day, that's about 130 MBs per day, per user. There are around 150 million daily active users in the US, so that's about 20 petabytes per day, just in the US. To put that in perspective, Facebook's entire data storage is 'only' about 300 petabytes, with a daily ingestion rate of about 600 terabytes.
I reckon it is all about money and nothing else.
I find this hard to believe. Only 300PB? As someone who has been inside an actual Facebook Data Center I call BS. It's much much more.
As for the other things being said. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. As an American, I can tell you we are extremely tired of the surveillance. Ever since the Patriot Act went into law, without any voting by the people mind you, we have been watched by big brother. Any and all steps towards removing big brother/entity is a step in the right direction, regardless of foreign or domestic.
I pulled it from this site. But its also quoted as the same on several. This was as of Sep 2023Facebook Statistics on Data and Usage
Facebook generates 4 petabytes of data per day—that’s a million gigabytes. All that data is stored in what is known as the Hive, which contains about 300 petabytes of data. This enormous amount of content generation is without a doubt connected to the fact that Facebook users spend more time on the site than users spend on any other social network, putting in about an hour a day. If you’re not sure if you’re an above-average Facebook user, you can now take advantage of the site’s tool “Your Time on Facebook” to figure out, you guessed it, how much time you spend on the site.
Money and control, I agree.
