Yeah tremendous idea for everyone to use the same connectors, and that those external devices that can use the connectors be used as they were designed.
Take a note Sony with u`r usb ports on u`r ps2 - standard keyboard ? no
Also Sony with dumb shaped game controller ports.. and fit usb ports underneath.. ?!?!? Infact any manufacturer with unecessary shaped ports.
M$ with their XBox that won`t use usb harddrives.. although their usb controllers work well on pcs

(even though I don`t like the controllers, ps2 shape ftw)
50million different types of extensions for media standards... (was only thinking about this today)
Technology is getting so intensely interweaved into worldwide society (atleast those who don`t travel 10 miles for water everyday, instead of moving closer to the water) - that a world organization should set these standards (ones with more power than exist atm) and every company that doesn`t knowingly comply with these standards, without due cause, should have a non-compliance tax levied against them. They should ask questions - such as - "why have u put that port on u`r device instead of usb?" and if the only practical reason is to make people buy a specific prepheril that only they make - fine em. It`s one of the many sole-money making things that holds advancements back just to make an extra buck.
/end of rant
This display port ? It will take many years for something new to take over as a standard, it`s really unnecessary other than the fact the DVI-X can do both analogue and digital - and quite frankly the internal workings of things such as monitors can already have a single port, the DVI, as there is room for it to include rgb, monitors just don`t do it. Downside is it`s big.
This new port needs screw-ins too. Any1 who`s had to go and service a user with a `non working monitor` will tell u it needs screw-ins.
Monitor manufacturers will love it coz as soon as it breaks in it`ll bring new sales. Mobo manufacturers will be licking their chops, alongside gfxcard people.
