Discontinued Cards

I know I may be just running the rumour mill or just losing the plot but hear me out.

I recently ordered an XFX RX 480 GTR, the one with XFX's own cooler and PCB, not the reference model with the blower cooler and I receieved an email today saying my order had been cancelled because that model had been discontinued. Now why would they do that when the card is not even a year old? Could it mean that a new model is coming soon? Be it a new XFX model or a Polaris refresh? I'm not sure whether to hold out and see

It may be that XFX had issues with that particular model of the card but it does seem strange that they would discontinue it after such a short space of time. It may also be that the supplier you are getting it from is not stocking the card anymore

Not saying the same issue but had to reply to this for something that happened to me a bit similar.
So back a few weeks ago in January i found an amazing deal, well i believed it was.
But i found an RX 480 nitro + 8gb for £209.99, I straight away placed an order along with power supply and memory all at a good sale price. a couple of days later i had a mail saying that the RX was out of stock all other item's had been dispatched. They then told me the RX was a discontinued line and they would have no more. I then went through a few mail's backwards and forwards, Basically i asked how i could order an out of stock item and the site or page did not state anything about being a discontinued item.Also payment was taken straight away for the all items ordered.
Apparently they took to many orders on the card of which they didn't have the stock. Anyhow after a day or two of emailing they said that the owners had agreed to honor all sales, and i received it a day or two later. And for something they said at first was discontinued it was straight back on sale on the site and still is today.

It may also be that the supplier you are getting it from is not stocking the card anymore

That's what I'm guessing it is, would be weird since the 480 isn't even a year old yet

I got an email from their customer services saying the usual "due to unforseen circumstances" blah blah blah "We've cancelled the order"

It just says that the reason is that the item has been discontinued, doesn't mention suppliers or XFX themselves though

I've bit the bullet and reordered it from OCUK who say they've got a load in stock right now (whoop) gonna have that sat waiting for Zen to drop with the rest of my gear
