I'm expecting a 20%+ performance increase, Quite conservative and realistic IMO.

I don't even think it's going to be 20%+ performance increase, I'm guessing more 10% performance increase.

Why would they make a GPU with that more of a performance increase when it's going to hurt there next series cards after Pascal & Polaris.

They are doubling the number of transistors on the die. They could therefore in theory gain a 100% increase in performance( it won't due to physics) but I suspect a 20-30% real world gain is pretty possible. Finfet is much easier to get high clocks along with the fact it's inherently faster. Additionally architecture improvements would give us more performance and having certain additional decode/encode abilities will allow us to do certain tasks with minimal computational needs. It all adds up.

That isn't hype. It's what happens when you double the transistor count and give it a better architecture... What is speculating is the amount of performance gain, however, again it falls back to what I just said and 20-30% is pretty obtainable with these changes, especially since high clockspeeds with FinFet are easier to achieve than previous planar designs and have better voltage leak properties(which is fact) which again can be applied to higher overclocks.

Yeah top end cards will get the most performance gains. Lower end models will probably be between 15-20% with much lower TDPs, so I agree with you there:)

Notebooks probably gain the most though, much much lower TDPs means less heat and performance can rise quite a bit at the same time, and still be lower than previous generations.
 
i remember something a few years ago but it was some sort of a mod wasn't it nothing official?
Can't see Microsoft taking it well if Nvidia put a spanner in the works

Ya it would probably upset MS to an extent. They are trying to sell the idea they want to support PC gaming and bring it all back, Nvidia not supporting a big feature(in many consumers eyes) wouldn't really help that notion
 
Picked up another 980 GTX for a steal of a price so when that arrives I'll be giving it a test.

Great news that we hopefully in the future wont have to rely on nvidia or amd creating the correct drivers for their own brand multi GPU setup.

Something that makes a big difference with 2 card setups is the CPU.

There is quite a difference going from a 4 or 6 core to an 8 core 5960X.

For a single card there is practically no difference as long as you use a modern CPU.

Below is a couple of my TXs and 5960X with the settings cranked up at 1080p. A single TX using the same setup scores 53.9fps.

That's a pretty big score kaap. Nearly double. However the driver overhead seems quite high. Idk if that's because Nvidia don't have much in the way of an official driver for it but still. Never seen a screen shot of 0% not GPU bound which is crazy:D
