DIMM slots?

just wondering what mainboard has the most dimm slots, and how much memory it could supports, as i hear vista can handle quite a lot

the most memory slots on any standard desktop mainbaord will be 4, and i think the max supported RAM is either 4GB but that may have changed for SP2.

As Dave said, 4 is standard now. 2 sets of dc. There are motherboards with more but they are mainly for servers i think.

It all depends on the socket you wish to go with. Some people opt for socket 940 gaming / server rigs which some dual and quad cpu socket 940 mobo's can handle 32+gb's of RAM.

Well I heard that you would really need quite a lot to run vista effectively, and maybe 4gig is just about good enough- so i'm guessing that there are going to be mainboards which will have either more dimm slots or ones that can support more ram in each module- if it can support 32gig+ then it makes sense...

The main drawback to larger sized modules and using more sticks is that you loose the tight timings and end up having to run in 2T, both in conjunction can slow a system down considerably.

Right now the best peformance / size ratio is 2 x 1gb sticks.

well ive heard that eventually instead of ram there will be super fast flash memory- which means no boot screens and faster multitasking etc.
