I always thought the main difference between the FX and A64 was the FX's integrated memory controller and the use of dual channel but now with socket 939 enabling dual channel on regurlar A64's is the performance between the two going to be worth the price difference? I know FX are retaining their 1mb L2 cache while the A64 are lowering to 512kb but do you think the FX's will be worth the extra cost over the regular A64's.

One thing I do like about the FX's is they seem to overclock quite nicely (not sure how the A64's do) which remind me, phil with your FX are you just multi overclocking or cranking up the FSBas well? I'm quite a fan of a nice high FSB:D

difference is a couple of hundred quid, but worth it for the smile on my face ;)

no doubts this fx rig is the fastest thing Ive ever had, Cache does seem to make a difference.Feels much much quicker than my XP running at 3 gig

O/C multi or FSB but no lock on mobos limit somewhat at the moment (mine at 220), waiting on new bios..

cant wait to see how an xt fits with it, most peeps gonna be severely cpu limited with new gfx cards.

well i won't be buying until august - so mobo's pci/agp locks should be shorted by then.

There's something really different about my FX53 - it just feels so smooth when I compare it to my fastest P4 setup. Take this little example too : today I installed an MSI package on both machines, this package is pretty big, and it expands to about 1.5GB of BMPS and WAV files as well as some executables. It took close to 5 minutes to install completely on a 4ghz P4 - which is about the time its always taken to install. I also installed it on the FX53 - wowsers. 1 minute 40 seconds for the same installation. 'nuff said really.

In fact, it was so surprising I had to manually double check the folders to make sure it had installed!

That’s because compression algorithms (along with media encoding and things like that) really benefit from having legacy instructions completely bypassed, and have been taking advantage of 64 bit systems for a quite a while now.

Have you got a hold of a copy of 64 windows? That makes installs like that even faster :)

Im ditiching all of my kit and leaving overclocking till sept, but will definately be going down the 64 bit route for my pc then...
