Difference between core 2 quad and core 2 duo?

What is the difference between core 2 quad and core 2 duo?

When will core2quad be better?

Will it be worth to pay $30 more for the "Core2quad 2.33GHz Quad Core" than the "Core2Duo 2.80GHz Dual Core"?

Core 2 quad has 4 processing cores, core 2 duo has just two.

What will you be using the machine for?

Gaming, work on microsoft word and internet browsing.

for general pc use the dual core should be more than good enough, not many programs/games use quad cores.

but like luigi said list what you will be using it for and we should be able to advise some more.

you replied before i managed to, tbh id go with the dual core as the extra speed will be more usefull for the stuff you listed,

I just upgraded from an E6750 @ 2.66GHz to a Q6600 at 2.4GHz, and most of my new games have seen massive improvements. I'll clock the quad to at least 3.2 aswell.

Some of the cheaper quad cores are low on L2 cache, so it depends on your budget.
