Did I just waste money?

I just ordered a GTX 980 Ti to replace a pair of Crossfired R7 370's that were very much lacking in the graphics processing power department. I do very minimal gaming but I have a 4K Dell monitor that I use, which really pushed the limits of what the 370's could do in games at 3840x2160. After researching, it came down to either upgrading to an R9 390X or a GT 980 Ti. With the GTX being the more powerful option I felt it a slightly better purchase for "future proofing".

Reading some reviews online though, am I going to be CPU bottlenecked? I am running an FX-8370 @ 4.7ghz. The R9 390X was about $200 less expensive of a card and doesn't stray far behind the GTX. Would that have been a better option? It may not be too late to change my order.....

I hate the word bottlenecked.

The AMD CPU wont perform as well as some of the Intel parts but its not going to 'bottleneck' the GPU no dude.

Not seen you about for aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaages!

Wow, as I typed this, the 390X just took a price cut to $279 w/ a $30 rebate bringing it down to $249.... I think I am going to change up my choice just due to price alone!

Ha, here I am!!

I haven't made a change to my computer in 6 years, lol. It was finally time to do something to bring it slightly back up to snuff. :)

Nice to have you around dude, our oldest active member :P

Its just an interim period... We have loads going on behind the scenes.

Im not far off paying it all off

Gratz! Are you still doing review vids? Haven't checked the channel in ages. Probably a dumb question, you probably are. Ya get a chance to review a 390X by chace?

I just changed my order BTW, now I feel better saving $200. :p

I did a few 390X's - the MSI was by far the best

Tis pretty. Could you not get a cheap Fury?

Not for $249. Also can't fit a triple fan card in my tiny little case. I think this XFX is going to fit the bill absolutely perfectly at the price point I was able to snag it at.

I really only play World of Warships for maybe 30 minutes a day, and maybe CS:GO for about 15 minutes a week.

I pretty much just use my PC for photography editing these days.

Dunno why I read pornography instead.

Nice buy with the 390x though. The 390x XFX is much better than the 2xx. Looks awesome to boot. Just hope everything will be well ventilated! Would be curious about the impacts of the CPU at 4k. Would have thought it would be minimal given the rez (game dependent of course).
