Diagnosing a hardware problem

This actually happened to me

Question: What would you say to someone who said?:

"In Windows, usually when I'm checking my email, my PC restarts itself"

"Windows won't open video files any more - it just restarts itself"

"My PC gets to the first boot up screen and stops for 20-30 seconds and reboots"

"Sometimes when I press the button at the front it just beeps and I have to turn it off via the socket on the wall but if I leave it a while I can start it normally"

"Sometimes my PC makes a noise like a car engine repeatedly turning over for no reason"

"Do you think I should go to PC World?"

Reminds me of that chip-shop one we saw the other week

My feelings are uncontrollabe... if I had a spare weekend, I`d look forward to getting that sucker working for the user, adding some miscelleneous things like cheap memory and another cheap, but better, gfx card in the process.

LOL that sounds familiar... Someone brought their PC to me for it to be looked at as the PSU had killed the motherboard and hard disk. It was built by a shop, but was built inside a case with a window.

I replaced the PSU, Mobo and Hard disk and not wanting to see that windowed case go to waste, fitted it out with some CCFL lighting and UV spiral wrap

Good grief thats a mess I've had some bad ones in my time come into my house for a cleanup and format but that one takes the micky.
