dfi nf4 ultra-d issues

Hey,

i just turned on my mobo, with everything inserted, and it remains on 3 diagnostic leds, i have looked this up and cannot seem to find out the issue. Anyone know what the matter is?

Yep - it's fried :(

Or it could be CPU memory or VGA related - swap them out one at a time.

If you are mach cooling the CPU it's liley that you have fried the board due to condensation from not mounting/sealing the head/CPU kit properly.

Also - reset cmos to see if that helps.

It's not looking good unfortunately - I may be wrong though.

lol your probs right, this is a three week issue, but i just wanted to bring it up again. Well i guess i need a new mobo then, should i go for the xfire mobo or dr, what does everyone prefer. Lucky its my bday in a week!

There are a lot of interesting things happening over the next few weeks - X1800XT's will be in stock but also Nvidia has a new ACE in the form of 7800GTX 512MB - which has stock clocks of 550mhz Core with 1800Mhz ram (although that could be 1600mhz depending on which story you read) - which in all fairness will more than likely relieve itself all over the XT (sorry Gollum :( )

The big question is whether crossfire will outperform SLI?

But also ask yourself in you need top notch USB support and SATA2 - if the answer to either of those is yes then its the NF4-SLI-DR.

Cheers

no to both lol, just need high fsb, high cpu voltage...

Then you choose - asking here you will get a 50/50 split of Crossfire or SLI mobo's - if neither of those are important to to you and you just want to clock high then you have a choice or you could go Quad Royale?

is the quad royale out yet? i havent seen it anywhere. I just want to play some games rly, internet, school stuff. I probs dont need sli.

ooh, all this new technology

I liked the days when you only needed one GPU to compete on the leaderboards, it makes things so much more simple :)

Not meaning to thread steal but instead of cluttering the forums ill post here :)

Id like to ask whether i should get either the DFI crossfire mobo (Good clocker) or the non xfire sapphire "Grupy" board?

I will be getting aan x23800+ so presuming thats a good clocker i would in effect like the best clocker out of these 2. I will also be getting an x1800xt512 but unsure if i will ever bother with 2...however like i say, the board needs to be the best clocker.

Hmm thats a tough call, the results shown by people with DFI Crossfire seem somewhat hit'n'miss, some hit the ground running with pretty decent overclocks others simply can not get the bugger working. Apparently it's real nice for BH-5 but TCCD has been troublesome for most.

The problem with the Sapphire is that there are very few examples of (if any) users' experience to be found anywhere, all that I can find are review write ups of very early versions of the board and who knows whether the version they tested some months ago is anything like the newly released version. I did read somewhere that a reviewer had a capacitor blow on one of these boards and it took the CPU with it! I have since heard that those caps have been been changed in teh production version.

I have a feeling that these early versions of the ATi chipset may be worth avoiding until the next generation comes round, perhaps they'll have better Southbridges with SATAII support.. who knows?!

@Justin

I often used to get the 3 LED's of death with my Ultra-D, as Mav correctly points out it may be a condensation issue, however your board may not be dead, just take the evap off, check for condensation, if there is any there blast it with a hairdryer for a while and perhaps leave it in the airing cupboard for a day or so, then try again. It may be worth getting some dielectric grease for the peace of mind.
