Designing a Cube case

Im in for a cube case!

nice to see you mark

erm

big enough for current and future hardware

a good position for the rad (perhaps up to 360mm rad?)

yeh, good cooling for the summer

watercooling ofc

some place to route cables?

some mesh/window (altho mesh does look cooler)

so large enough for all current and future standard hardware, but to be able to stick a handle or something on it so it aint a pain to carry to lans

flatpack ikea style ftw! :p

wonder what the estimated cost will be? we could have quite a demand for these

I'm up for a Cube for ma new system.. has to be able to hold two loops on 240 or bigger rads tho.

Maybe something with a PVC (windowed) top/side depending on the mobo setup.

I dont know about the rest but 2x 5 1/4 bays external and 4x HDD bays internal would suit me.

its looking like air is out and water is in. I will sit down and figure some sizes in a bit.

Hi Mark

It's awesome to see you back again and even better knowing what you're doing. Congrats on your recent success too :)

Thread named changed as per Tox's request and thread stuck for the time being to ensure it doesn't disappear :)

Thank you PV5150

Hello mrapoc.:wavey:

I was looking at a triple rad I have and its 15.5" in length(sorry I grew up before the metric system)

The Qpack case if I remember was 14" deep 10" wide and 9" tall

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811144111

Is this similar to the shape you want? and if you want room for the triple I could just add an inch or so to the length.

Or do you want a double or a double and a single(2 loops)

heyyy

well anything cubular in shape and not as big as that lian li recently reviewed.

that case looks ace, maybe a bit small. as for loops, iv only ever done one loop and it was fine, but as others may want the same design perhaps offer the option to either have 2/3 fans on one side, or an extra rad.

edit: i found that the mountain mods H2GO had everything i was after

if i can get you to agree on the shape of the Qpack I can make a case about 1" taller 1 1/2" longer and 1/2" wider to house a dual rad and a single (with 1 or 2 pumps/loops) or a triple rad (single loop).

It would mount any GPUs (2,3 or 4) and any size PS as well.

looks about right to me mate, and personally id just go for a triple rad and not bother with two loops.

what kinda airflow are we gonna look at as well?

thaanks

you all need to agree on the Rads first. Airflow will be superior to any existing SFF case.

How many Hdds do you all want to have room for?

Also can you use Laptop DVD or do you require reg size DVDs?

give me some Ideas of the mobos, PSs, and GPUs that may be used.

Triple Rad sounds okay to me. People with a double (like me) can use the extra space for other things.

I would rather use a Regular sized DVD drive.. dunno about everyone else. With hardware I was thinking of High-End gear. Full ATX stuff.

Someone else can elaborate.

the extra space can be used for the DVD.

So a triple and Laptop DVD or a double with a full size DVD.

How many HDDs do you need?

one other thing is I have a bit of CarbonFiber left if you guys can think of a part to be made from it.

To Hdds It looks like there should be room for 2 to 4 of them with active cooling (fancy name for a fan blowing on them):D

2 to 4 hdds will be fine mate :)

i was hoping to use a normal sized dvd/full atx stuff

so does that mean it will be limited to a dual rad instead? or is there a way around it? :p

perhaps the base can be covered with the carbon fiber? i dunno if it wil be seen tho

you got msn bro? perhaps we can hav a chat

Carbon firbe is pretty sexy to me. :)

Is everyone agreed one a window? I wanna be able to see the water loop.

Is the case going to be able to take a 10.5"+ GPU?

I would like a window and perhaps some mesh on one/some of the sides.

i hope the case would be suitable for all new hardware.

as for the rad, will not having a 360 rad affect performance much? iv only ever had a 360 rad lol

Im on a 240 and I can say that their is no problem in having one. Look at me running at 4Gz with a quad. Lots of Proof! :D

ya fair enough

how about a part in the case with space to either mount another rad (for whatever reason) or stick 2x120mm fans in its place?

Using the shelf idea from other cases I like the idea of having the main computer parts on the top shelf and bottom have harddisk PSU.

I was thinking of having two 120mm fan holes allowing you to attach the rad on the inside sucking air in. Then the PSU with it's 120mm fan sucking out. All on the bottom shelf.

On the top shelf the airflow needs to be good. As the 9800GX2 blows air into the case. Meaning it needs a good fan to suck the air around it away. :D
