Deneb AM3 chips will work in AM2+ socket

Performance and all else to one side. Being able to use the cpu in another socket as an option is pretty awesome imo.

Not only does it give AMD a market in new builds, but also as drop-in replacements for existing setups.

(I`ve no doubt there`ll be a patch or something required, but hey)

An unconfirmed rumor has it, that the AMD cpu is catching up on the Intel. A pretty small figure was thrown out, but it`s a start.

This is exactly what a lot of people I've built PCs for have wanted in their setup. Good on AMD. I know the Intel chips are faster but for the standard user I'll be able to recommend an AMD setup again purely based on the fact that they are the better company and will offer alternatives such as this rather than forcing you into a lot of brand new hardware for an upgrade.

I think being backwards compatible is more light on the subject then AMD needs to make people look past Intels offerings. Which we know will be hard pressed for the wallet area.
