Dell have re-enabled the option to have Windows XP Home preinstalled (in place of Vista) on some select systems available to home users.

The Lines Are:

Laptops -- Insprion :: 1405 1501 1505 1705

Desktops -- Dimension :: E520 and E521

Ars lol

Anywho, Dell wouldn`t do this for fun. They wouldn`t do it for a minority of customers either.

EDIT: Oh fiddlesticks!

Well according to one of the news threads here Dell said they would start offering the option of clean HDs and thats what ive been waiting for.

Doesnt really matter, With most pc's you buy from OEM, you will have downgrade rights. This will enable you to downgrade from vista to xp free of charge. Ofcourse there are certain criteria's ect.

Bloody good job there doing this as hardly any of our suppliers have laptops that come with Xp pre installed and becta (school governing body) is saying stay away from vista as all the educational software isnt ready for it.

Havent read the following link, but have a read, it might explain a bit better........

Aye we're staying away from XP at my work till it's 100% tested with Citrix and all the other cr@p we need.

Although Dell sell us XP machines anyway and always have so...

we stopped dealing with dell as there were acting like idiots. This was a couple of years ago. Word on the grapevine is there struggling. Not sure how true that statement is, but there deff not doing as good as they used to.

The Dells we have here are about to start needing replacing (like a 4-5 year lifetime), we`ve almost-just gotten rid of the Compaq-Evos >.<

We have an own-build that they install on the machines before they come to us, Siemens that is, the new machines are pretty good HP DC7x00, only problems I`ve had with them is drive failure. Build is XP on an NT frame of sorts, almost like NT with XP patched on it, a new one comes outs perhaps every month or so. Think we get IE7 this month YAY! lol

Gotta be extremely tested before it gets used, security and compatability. I`m hoping vista is a long way off coz I can see the support queue growing exponentially with it - not cos it dont work, but coz of the subtlties.

Ye cause people will look at it and panic without trying stuff!!

Most of our users use winterms and Win Server 2k3 through Citrix but all the desktop machines get an XP image from our corporate image which we then manage via LANDesk. Vista is being tested by our future tech team but it's a way off for sure
