well, about an hour or 2 ago my dfi ultra d went to mobo heaven:(

I was just having a game of css and listening to some tunes when bam the pc tries to reboot/shut down,i see 4 red lights on the mobo and what looked like an orange one a bit to the right so i am like huh when did that orange l.e.d get there so i didnt take much notice of it.

so i started pressing the power button then held it down to try and get it to shut down...no response, trying the reset button...no response

then i notice that the 'orange led' getting brighter so i take a closer look and i saw some smoke and was like sh1111t,that aint no led its freakin burnin'

smacked the psu power off, waited about 20 min, tried powering up,blank screen and what smelled like burning electronics, thats the story.

i am now stuck on a northwood b core 2.26ghz,512mb ddr and some geforce2 cr4p lol.

dont know about an rma for an old board,i have no receipt either

anyone have any experience with dfi rma?

dont know how long the rig will be down for,i am just happy that i backed up all my data etc,and hope it didnt take any other components with it.

That really sucks mate. Unfortunately the DFI RMA system sucks harder. I've returned 2 boards to them and on both occasions they tried laying something on to get out of replacing it.

As for the receipt...MS Word is your friend ;)

Unlucky man.

Id say bite the bullet and upgrade. Mobo would be the most expensive bit of it @ about £60 (IP35-E say), an E21xx like £40 and a set of DDR2 can be had for £50 now.

true,it is a good excuse to upgrade lol,i will haveto see how things go.

i am just still so gutted right now:( ,the ultra d was a fine mobo

r.i.p ultra-d.:p

I'd inspect your PSU to see if it cooked your board, it might not be a good idea to upgrade until you're sure that it failed on its own. Better to be safe than sorry. See if the PSU will start up, and test it with a multimeter.

thats a good point tuco, although i dont have a multimeter.

i can test it with some old s478 gear i dont use,if i cant borrow a multimeter of anyone.

Sorry to hear about that :(

I hope my Ultra-D holds up; I don't really have the time or money to upgrade now, and I'm really looking forward to all the new games out next month...
