hey guys yesterday i encountered a strange problem.when i powered up my pc everything was looking normal.but when it tried to load windows (at the point where the blue window arears at windows 10)my system powed off!!!i tried like 10 times but the same problem was happening!i read some info over the internet everyone sugested dead psu.but someone sugested to take out the mobo battery and put it back after 5 minutes.i did that and it worked my system was runung fine.i also got a new battery just to be sure.BUT this morning i had the same problem again.i did the battery solution again and thats how i started my system and writing this post.
P.s when i turn my sustem off i hear a strange tik tik coming from the psu its not like an electric sound but something like something is hitting somewhere i cant explain exactly the sound.just imagine a tik tik.when i switch off the psu the noise stops.when i switch it on it comes again.right now that my system is working that sound is not happening!
i need some serious help guys should i get a new psu? cause i was about to get a new cpu!

Is the tik tik continuous or only at initial start up and shut down. PSUs will tik when they initialise its a relay clicking into place engaging voltage delivery. Sounds to me more that your cmos battery is almost flat.

I have the cs 650m they are quality units, which cards are you wanting to sli? 750w should be more than enough for sli but it depends on the rest of your system.

Just remember your PSU is the heart of your system please make sure you get a quality brand I love my superflower 750W

i am thinking to add a second 970.asus maximus vii hero 4690k 8gig ram veng corsair ocz ssd

Couldn't say what the PSU is doing, personally if it was mine, it would be replaced. Never a good sign when electronics start "TIK TIK"ing.

Aye does sound like the PSU, but if it is, it's on a slow way out. When the system shuts down does it turn off (like Windows giving you the 'turning off' screen) or does it just die?

Before you spend money on a new PSU, is there any chance you can try another in your system? Just so you don't buy a new PSU only for it to be the motherboard or RAM or something. Either way, get that current unit out of there as soon as you can. You don't want it to take your other components with it.

SuperFlower and Corsair are both reliable brands. SuperFlower do make their own PSUs while Corsair lets other companies like Channel Well (CWT) and Flextronics do it. With Corsair however, you do know that if something does go wrong, they'll have you covered with their awesome warranty :)

So far I've not heard a single story about the SuperFlower warranty which could mean that they're so epic they get very few RMAs, but also you won't know what to expect if it does die on you. It'll probably be fine though and they do make some of the best units on the market right now.

What size you need depends heavily on the GPU that you have. Thelos mentioned 970s but I didn't see you mention that you actually own those anywhere? I did find an older post by you where your signature said you had a 780.

If you're running 970s in SLI, 650 Watts should be enough. I reckon with 2 of those, a CPU, HDDs etc, your system will probably pull under 500 Watts from the wall at full load (which will never really happen) so you should have some decent headroom too. However if you get one of those units with a Zero RPM fanmode like the Corsair RM series, getting a 750 Watt unit will probably result in the fan never needing to spin up and thus making your system a little quieter :)

If however, you are running 780s, which weren't as power efficient yet, I recommend you pick up an 850 Watt unit if you plan on going SLI. They used a fair bit more power and while you might get away with a 650 Watt unit, it'd constantly be under a lot of stress during gaming sessions and probably won't last you very long either.

i dont own the 780 any more i have an msi 970 and planing to add 1 more in the future.i also got an asus maximus vii hero and next week a 4690k but i dont want to switch them if i dont solve the psu problem.i dont want to fry them.
winddows dont gimme the shut down screen, the system just dies when it tryes to load windows.i will shut my system down when the "HYPE" ends and wont turn it back on till i test a friends psu on my system or get a new one.probably the rm750 by corsair.

650 Watts would be enough but yeah, if you're going for an RM750 you'll be sure to have plenty headroom and the unit should last you through a couple of builds/ upgrades. As a bonus the fan on it will probably never even need to spin.

If it just dies it definitely sounds like a power issue. Even if it's not the PSU it's probably the motherboard/CPU which you are both replacing anyway, so I'd be looking at the PSU for as the problem.

Also considering the hardware you're running on it, I'd swap out your current unit anyway, even without defects. 7 years is quite old for a PSU and I must admit I've personally never heard of the brand, but I couldn't find a lot about them on Google either which is always a bit dodgy to me.
