Dead Motherboard?

I'm trying to revive an old PC. Has the following parts MSI P43 Neo, Q9550, 1x2GB ram, Corsair VS450, Gigabyte 460, plus all the rest of peripherals and HDD.

I can't seem to be getting any video signal or mouse/keyboard recognition. Everything else turns on, like HDD, fans, CD-ROM.

Tried to reset bios and start only with the bare minimum outside of the case. At first I thought maybe the GPU is bad but since there is no power to the keyboard it leads me to believe the motherboard is at fault. I've tried all USB ports, even an USB to PS2 adapter.

By no power to the KB I mean the numlock doesn't come on and no matter how long you spam ctrl+alt+del for the PC to restart, it doesn't.
I've tried the KB and GPU on another PC and they are working.

Anything I missed or could try?

Has the board got onboard graphics on it at all? if it has try that 1st :)

EDIT: I can see by looking online that it hasn't have you replaced the cmos battery?

It's on 775 platform so no integrated GPU there.
Haven't replaced the CMOS battery, but I don't see any point in doing it. If I'm not wrong the only purpose of it is to keep your bios and date settings when your PC is off.

Huh...I never knew that.

I'll order a new battery and see if it changes anything.
It's worth a punt, on some older boards that can be the case, with newer boards you'll just get clock errors, or even the "new CPU detected" message. Have you tried clearing the CMOS before booting? a quick google I found quite a few people with the same issue your experiencing here..

Yeah, I did try clearing CMOS, both by removing the battery and using the jumper.

I just ordered a battery and will see what happens when it gets here.

I would try battery from another computer. Maybe your primary one? But I have no idea about compatibility and stuff like that. You should google first just to be sure you don't break something.

Thought about that but the battery in my current PC is in a weird spot, under the GPU. Would rather wait for the battery to arrive.

Okay, just installed a new battery and everything is working.
Never knew the CMOS battery could cause this. Learn something new every day.

Thanks guys!

Fantastic news, thanks for the feedback.

Yes some older boards simply will not boot without the CMOS battery it was something to do with the internal clock and memory addresses that caused it, thankfully it's not something we have now.
