Dead Island Release

Only issues I've been having is setting up online games for friends.

Wish I could get a better FOV though.

The only problem I had was setting up a game in the first 2 days and that was because they shut off communication between Steam uses, but I used Himachi and other then that it's been amazing
biggrin.gif
! I shouldn't have to use Himachi, but putting that aside, I'm having fun. 15 hours in 2 days

EDIT: I can't play the game by myself because I literally get scared, it's not scary, but I'm just a wimp

Yea i hate the horror genre!!! I only play zombie games because they are extremly fun with friends
tongue.gif
But luckily Dead Island isn't that scary

I have played for an hour so far, and I am quite liking it
smile.gif
The graphics aren't the best, but I copied some settings from some dudes config, and imo it looks better now
smile.gif

Went from around 100-120FPS at the max settings I could find in the in-game options, to 60-80FPS with the improved settings
smile.gif

What you need to do is go to your dead island directory, then go Dead Island\DI\out\Settings folder and find the file "Video". Back up your original "Video" file before doing the next steps.. It's a screensaver file for some odd reason, so you will have to open notepad and drag the file in there, then change the settings..

Heres the settings for improved graphics, either copy them over the lines already in the file or just change the values manually
smile.gif

BPP(32)

FSAA(32)

TexBPP(32)

TextureQuality("High")

Filtering("AnisotropicTrilinear")

Fullscreen()

Vsync()

Shadows("High")

ShadowMapSize(2048)

SpotShadowMapSize(4096)

Lightmaps()

GammaFloat(1.23)

MaxRefresh(60)

MaterialQuality(0)

FXQuality(4)

FXFadeLevel(0)

WaterQuality(0)

GrassQuality(0)

EnvQuality("FullDynamic")

ShaderPath(5)

PostProcess("Normal")

Last step is to save the file from notepad, then right click the "Video" file and go properties, then check the Read-Only box and apply!

If the game crashes, try reducing the value with 4096 to 2048 or use your old config instead
smile.gif

For higher resolution shadows, you can also change the ShadowMapSize to 4096 but this crashes on some setups.

Sorry for the long post, just thought I would let you guys know. Also if you experiment with the settings in the file and find tweaks for even better graphics let me know, I haven't experimented with it myself yet
smile.gif

EDIT:

Don't know how this works with steam versions of the game, I do not have it on steam

Wow, thanks for that dude. I'm currently using a shitty monitor at 1440 x 900 and with the highest settings I get an average of over 300fps, lol.

Do you know any way to mod the Crysis 2 .cfg? Currently get 40 - 80fps on ultra DX11

How!?
ohmy.gif

My 5850's in crossfire gets like 10-20FPS if I completely max it (Ultra, DX11, High Res Pack). I know that your 5870 will have better FPS, but not TRIPLE the FPS lol. EDIT: actually its quadruple the FPS
tongue.gif

I know this is off-topic, but I seriously need to put it to the lowest (High) to run 60FPS with high res and DX11. Do you have the High Res textures installed?

Both 5850's have high load, so crossfire is enabled. Don't know how i7 950 @ 4GHz compares to your 1090T though.

Answer to your question though, google probably knows

Yeah I have all upgrades and run on max possible settings except low motion blur because I hate motion blur.

Make sure you're running in fullscreen or else you'll get less than half the fps of fullscreen. Fullscreen is very tempremental with Crysis 2 though.

1600x900 also

Wow! thanks for the fullscreen tip! I have been running windowed just to test the FPS and didn't bother with fullscreen since the FPS was so low..

Cheers!

Yeah we went onto Hamachi it's been connecting first time fine, much better with friends, i'm not scared of zombies or anything but I would get bored quick if I was by myself.

I was confused about this game, only because i wasn't sure if i should get it on PC or PS3... Since i built the computer i want to get every game on PC but some games are better on consoles and vice versa.

I don't think Dead Island is too much better on the PS3 than the PC tbh.. I never get games for my PS3 or xbox anymore.. Even with LA Noire I will rather wait a couple months for the PC version than buying it for Xbox/PS3..

Maybe i keep picturing Dead Rising too much, i had that on ps3 and loved it.

Suppose it depends on the game, COD i will buy on ps3. BF3, PC hands down.

I will probably get Dead Island on PC, just because there could be a good mod community for it, but i'm not sure about that.

BF3 Definitely on the PC as well. It will require all the power we can give it to get the best out of the game.

Bought this friday and had a lot of problems as have my friends with the game , my main problem has been a horrible scratching noises and static. It seems this is a common problem and have found some workarounds for it but its still not totally working 100%.

I have to say i am dissapointed simply because of the bugs , nothing more and it puts me off playing it.

Its a shame that the pc versions of these games which seem to be made for the consoles and the pc market is an afterthought.
