DC control of a TEC?

I was just wondering if anyone knew of an INSANELY high wattage fan controller that wasn't too expensive that could power about a 200w peltier or if anyone knew how I could make a controller from an arduino or something. I've seen the arduino thing done and was hoping someone knows how it would be possible and possibly be able to tell me how I could make/buy one.

thats about 18 amps i dont think you can get any potentiomiters that can do that off the shelfs il have a look though.

had a look around and the only things that seem to fit the bill would be for controlling the speed of dc motors.
Dunno how you would integrate something like that though.
but its a starting point for you to look at i guess.

im sure its more than 16 lol. but its still to much for a standard pot:D
and im not sure how you would controll it digitally to be honest.. im a bit medieval when it comes to regulating voltages. my cpu has a billion valves.

Simple Ohms Law, Voltage (12v) over Current (200w) = Resistance (16.6Amp)

Edit: I do agree with you on the control method, it's going to be rediculously hard with standard pots.. :/ I'm scratching my head here.

Yea, I knew the amps needed to be a little more for the 200w. I honestly don't know how I'm going to regulate to keep the water and my CPU above dew point. I can insulate the block with blu tac and keep the water from dripping down to other components but the main reason I don't want to go below dew point is because there will be condensation on the tubing aswell, this problem is much harder to overcome :(.

As well as the safety aspects, I've got to say that it would be nice to save a little power in the process.

I've seen digital controllers that can be connected via a USB but I can't find them in stock any where so I'm a little stuck as to what to do now.

I=P/V
I= 200/12
I= 16.66

well you labelled the values incorrectly but still managed to work I lol

P/V=I
860/240= I

I=3.58 amps.

if your going below dew point with cooling. thermaly insutlate the components anbd pipes that will below ambient temps.
can use that expanding foam stuff.. blocks of polystyrene with a hoe cut in them. that funny looking stuff you get in packages thats like paper but its kind of more like foam..
anything that dosent really conduct heat basically.
then your cold parts are really cold but the room side of the insulator is at room temp, and the cold side is prety much the same temp as the cold part. and you dont get moisture finding its way to the cold parts either.

gcse's are kind of like sats (according to my wife who is american) but you have to take gcse's apparantly the americans version isnt mandatory.

also the uk one you have to do an exam for all your subjects "mandatory ones and then 3 chosen" (may have changed since i was in school lol)

and then you get to say
i have an
A in english
A in maths
B in chemesty
C in art
A in physics

and so on and so forth..
and thats what you tell people when you want a job.

I can't believe I managed to fudge that up, and I'm a fully qualified mains installer & portable appliance tester. :huh: At least my maths was correct ;)

All good dude! we all same team haha But yea started my apprenticeship 10 yrs ago now and have been fully qualified for 6!

:lol: I seem to forget that GCSE's are UK only hahah, they're like a qualification and an arduino is like a little circuit board that can perform tasks.

is your GCSE like your certificate for completing high school or is it from some form of tertiary education? In Aus we have the HSC which is your cert for completing year 12 (actaully your 13th and last year if school)

The problem with insulating the tubes, and my only problem with it, is that it is incredibly hard to make look nice and not bulky. I'll be able to insulate the dual bay res that should be coming soon, to an extent as I still want to be able to see the front face, and most of the components at the business end of the peltier, such as the waterblock and all of the tubing in that area.

I know that this isn't a good explanation so I'll do a photoshop of it now and post later.
