Dazed and Confused by Z77X-D3H and i7 2700k RAM OPTION'S

Hi Guy's and Gal's, just bought a Gigabyte Z77X-D3H motherboard alongside an Intel i7 2700k cpu, trouble is the motherboard manual state's that to use DDR3 1600Mhz RAM, you have to install an Ivybridge cpu. I bought the combo for both price and performance, and i've bought 16GB of DDR3 1600Mhz RAM from same vender. I asked vender before purchase about the information in the manual and he said that the RAM would work fine. Question is dude's, will the new Crucial Vengeance DDR3 1600Mhz low profile (hopefully !) RAM work at it's full potential with my Gigabyte Z77X-D3H motherboard, Intel i7 2700k cpu and the Awesome Noctua NH D14 cpu cooler...Thank's in advance for any help and suggestion's, Bri...

it will work fine just set the XMP profile at 1600Mhz you'll be fine. I had a 2500k with the ram at 1600Mhz it just sees it as overclocked ram which should be no problem.

If it won't boot jsut press the mem ok button

^^

welcome to the forums,

the Corsair memory will work excellently in that combination. if you are going to overclock

you may want to start with just two sticks in the sockets. once you have a stable overclock

established, then the fun begins. see the 2700 has a finiky memory processor and when

overclocked, the 4 modules seem to piss on yor stable overclock. the ivey bridge has a

smoother memory processor and handles the higher speed memory modules in a different

way.

yes it will, but if overclocking, a challenge is in your future. the noctua nh-d14 might have an

issue with the memory as well the case. due to the high cooling fins, the outer slots are fine,

the inner my obstruct the p12 fan on the cooler. if so, the fan can be elevated for clearance,

but some cases might not allow the extension.. i'd start with two modules in slots

DIMM_02 and DIMM _01 to help with the clearance issue.

Thank's guy's for your reply's they were very helpfull. Yes, the Noctua fitted fine with the Corsair ram, and everything is up and running...got a Passmark of 3471 running at stock 3.5ghz.

I can overclock the cpu to 4.5ghz and it boot's fine and everything work's ok untill some heavy duty work start's then the blue screen show's it's ugly face and crashes...4.4 seem's more stable, but i guess i've picked the wrong motherboard for serious overclocking as i've read somewhere about the board not being too clever in this dept...Any ideas about some manual setting's as most are available, i.e. mul, voltage etc...if not i'm seriously thinking about selling the new motherboard as the Noctua and i7 2700k could do Sooo much more...Any idea's on a more suitable board for the cooler and cpu please Guy's and Gal's ? Thank's again Bri...

P.S. The Noctua fit's fine with low profile ram, tring to find out the difference's with Noctua verses stock, should be interesting !

Well, i was going to sell the motherboard but Gigabyte have just bought out a new bios for a more stable overclock. First thing i did after updating the bios was to use the o/c tool to o/c to 4.6ghz...i'm really happy at this clock, not too high, not too low...and it is very stable with no problem's. I compared the stock Intel cooler with the Noctua d-14, the stock temp's bolted upto 90c and crash, crash, crash...The Noctua at top's is 75-80c for the highest core, so thankfully my new build has turned out ok...could'nt fit 2 side fan's on the case though, the cooler has only around 1 or 2cm clearance...Anybody worrying about the Noctua and ram should not worry, as the ram is fine, just to mention the rig then:

Coolermaster 680II 6 fan's

Gigabyte z77x-d3h

i7 2700k cpu

Corsair 4x4 low profile xmp 1600 ram

Noctua D-14

Samsung 830 SSD (64gb and 256gb), THE 256 is selling on Dab's now for £149, so i'm off to by another QUICK !

NVidia 9600GT, (nice little card...), but i'll get either a 580 or 680 later on...

By building the rig myself, i reckon i've saved quite a few quid, but the best thing was building it to the spec i wanted, and with all the blue led fan's spinning, it look's great too...Ohh, and the board's sound for any further Ivybridge, when i've burned out the Sandy, hehehe...

P.S. i was flabbergasted by the difference's in temp's between the two cooler's, the Noctua is the bee's knee's and very quiet, cheer'sguy's and gal's...England 1 Ukraine o...
