DayZ Vs BF3

Hi!

I'm currently trying to sell my old gaming pc. There is potentially a buyer, however, he isn't convinced that my pc is good enough for DayZ. He plays mainly DayZ.

I have no idea what or how much DayZ requires, and since I don't have the game myself, I can't test it.

However, I do have BF3. At high settings on 1650x1080 I have an average FPS of 40-ish.

1) Anyone knows how DayZ is compared to Bf3?

Specs:
CPU: Intel Quad Core Q8400
MB: Asus P5Q Pro
GPU: Radeon HD 5770 1GB
RAM: 6GB

On a side note, I'm planning on buying the Intel Pentium G3258 with a z97 MB for gaming after selling my old pc. I have an old GPU geforce 560 Im planning to use. I'm a student, and can't afford much.

2) Would this be an upgrade or downgrade?

Completely different game. In general DayZ is a fucking mess, even on my current rig i have to play on pretty low settings to keep my framerate above 60, in some towns there is no way to get 30fps.
With that setup it won't run well, let's leave it at that.

It will have quite a few issues getting above 30fps with DayZ standalone and will have similar issues with dayZ mod.

I'm guessing your current rig is the one in your profile sig? I thought DayZ was kind of an old game. Although I must say that I'v heard the way it's build/developed is bad.

Thanks for the replies. What about question 2? Any thoughts?

The engine they use is very intensive and poorly optimised (don't get me started on hosting it either). There are two versions of DayZ. there is the mod (which is pretty old but is still intensive) and the standalone (more graphically intensive, early in development, still poorly optimised). The main issue with both DayZ games is how they use cpus, or rather don't. You really need strong cpu cores to run it properly. The GPU you have in that list won't cut it either tbh although the mod probably would run alright.

-edit-
I'd imagine the pentium would be a slight upgrade.

I'm now rocking a G3258 overclocked to 4.6Ghz with a GTX750Ti and their eating every game I throw at them. Even at stock it's a forceful little CPU and it's low energy.

As far as gaming goes it's fantastic, but if your wanting something for video editing or 3DMax style stuff it will suffer.

That's understandable. Just wondering though, what kind of impacts will have on programming? Like, java, jME, Android etc... I don't think there is any difference, but can't back that up. I'll be doing some programming in the near future.

I would say for APPs and such you shouldn't notice anything, I don't notice any performance drop compared to my old FX-4100 :) I do do a lot of Photoshop work and still I'm waiting to see if anything slows down. I'm impressed as hell with it, it's a Intel masterpiece.

The only advantage of said higher cores and more multi threading is when dealing with stupendous pics in RAW formats i guess same with video editing at terribly high res or really long, kinda like TTL's vids (nothing wrong with them, i love the length thats why i watch them).
But they tend to be lower clocked per core. So less taxing but not as fast per core, plus hyper threading just keeps the cores busy more than not. Kinda like eating with 1 hand or 2 :) guess which vid that from ... lol

Im looking at a pent K ed to run a few little projects but for that i need said money and time lol :) but yeah about DZ its not well optimised for higher res but as the others say technically its not released yet just in the Alpha or maybe Beta i dunno but either way its still being polished and may run better, just i doubt it will run on much settings above mid range stuff.

Forgive my ignorance, but what does APP stand for? =)

I think you mean 1680x1050,and you will be sub 40 btw as well.

No I mean 1650x1050. I have custom made ratio. JK, you are right :P

Apps = Applications, sorry I can see the confusion now, it does look like a abbreviation.

Ah, ok. I was actually reading it as A.P.P :D Thought it was an abbreviation for some kind of programming language ^^,

Now I'm excited to get my hands on the new cpu. But got to get rid of my old one first! =(
