D945 worth it?

My shuttle MB and BIOS do not allow me to upgrade to C2D and are not compatible with pentium D EE either (which are too expensive anyway), so my choice for upgrading my cpu is limited to pentium D960 max.

Locally I can't seem to find D960 (3.6MHz) anymore but I can get my hands on a D945 (3.4MHz).

So do you think upgrading from my D830 (3.0MHz) to a D945 worth it or not, knowing that I overclocked my D830 to 3.3MHz? (running a bit hot though)...

Also is it true that the D900 cpus run 5C to 10C less than the D800 cpus?

I have seen some benchmarking in pcmark05 showing that the D960 gets close to the E6600, can anyone confirm this too?

TIA

The 900's probably would run a little cooler since they're 65nm vs 90nm for the 800's.

That said the upgrade isn't worth it. The E6600 runs circles around even the D960. I suggest you just start saving for a C2D system upgrade

at same speeds the difference is negligible , BUT your 65nm runs cooler. Lap your processor and then oc it , you are bound to get to about 3.8ghz or so , which is very decent for a presler . If you are lucky you might even get to 4ghz but that really really depends on your cooling. But you will definitely notice a difference in temps when your heatsink and processor are both lapped flat giving you the best thermal transfer possible. :)

thanks all, I will give it a try as I can get the D945 for around 150 USD. I don't really want to change to C2D as my system is not really old yet and still runs pretty decently for my professional needs and for games.

I will surely lap the D945 and hopefully OC it to 3.8GHz :) that should give me a little boost for some time!
