so im in a bit of a jam with a christmas system im building for someone, its just an i3 2120 system, single HDD, and a radeon 7770 video card, i know they recomend a 500 watt power supply, but im wondering if a corsaid CX 430 will be enough? its a very tight budget and im a little iffy on useing a 430W

It would be fine in my opinion, according to anandtech a full system with a 7770 only used 250w at full load so I would say it will be fine

A 430 should be fine for that though have you thought about the future upgrades? (If they're a gamer) Might be better to go for a cx 500 if there's a chance they might upgrade to save some money in the long run.

i doubt upgrades will be happening in the near future....and the budget is 0$ so i am buying the psu for it myself (lil xmas present for a friend) but im also on a low low budget.....and the 430 is $20 cheaper than the 500 lol

there are other brands i could go with in a higher wattage for the same price tho...should i be considering a thermaltacky? or a coolermaster? or an XFX? or OCZ?

(YES the OCZ was a joke!)

Considering you even called it Thermaltacky - I hope that was too!

Silverstone PSUs are pretty decent. As are BeQuiet! if you're on a budget

so i found a nice Corsair GS 700 on sale for a similar price to the 430 watt. so i have picked up the 700 watt GS psu. now i just hope i can find the room inside the case to put all the extra cables lol! the video card going into this machine was suppose to be a radeon 7770, but has been upgraded to a Gigabyte 7850 1GB OC edition. (the monitor being used by the user is a 24" LCD running (at least i think it is) 1680 X 1050. is not a 1080 resolution.

So on boxing day i installed the GS700, and the radeon 7850 (Gigabyte 1gb 900Mhz edition) and turned it on for him. first thing we noticed is the noise level from the computer dropped to almost 0! the power supply fan is soo much quieter! not only that, after some testing his cpu temps dropped as well (guess the fan is pulling more hot air out of the case) so that was 1 bonus to it. when he turned on his favorite game which use to give him about 5 - 15 FPS on the old GT520, and i turned all settings to max and he sat down to 60 FPS (with V sync on) he was speachles! he didnt know it could look like that
