Buy a new HDD in the matter of hours. If it has started to go wrong it will go with a bang at any time. Take it from a man who's replacement drive for RMA-ed one came broken from the box. Back your important data up on dropbox, or if it is sensitive burn it on DVD. NAS or not if you store them properly disk drives are still the safest place for your data. I have Windows 98 CD that works like a charm. I don't know any HDD that can survive that long.
