Crysis 3 FPS and specs

Hey guys,
I played the beta last night for a few hours and was disapointed that i had to play with my graphics settings on Medium with AA turned down or even Off. I was hoping to at least play on High but when i did, I got alot of stuttering and my FPS would range from 25-50. On Medium i get 50-60 which is great. Would you guys mind sharing your system specs and what you're getting for FPS? Mention what settings you have too (low, med, hi, ultra...)

Intel i7 950
EVGA FTW3 X58
EVGA GTX 580 reference
12GB ram
Samsung 830 128gb

I wonder if it's my processor that's bottlenecking. My 580 is a beast!

I haven't played the Beta yet, but what driver version are you on? The latest beta drivers are supposed to give you a boost in Crysis 3. I'm not sure if the boost accounts for 500 series cards though.

Also, the 950 would definitely not be bottle-necking your card. What is your CPU and GPU usage when playing on high settings?

its only a beta release the none beta drivers are not optomised for the game try the beta nvidia drivers http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/win8-win7-winvista-64bit-313.96-beta-driver-uk.html

also i had my 570 overclocked so it was as fast as a 580 and it would only play on medium even with the beta drivers, ive just upgraded to a 7970

I'm on the latest production drivers. I will give the beta drivers a try tonight, but as you mentioned, I'm sure that's only good for the 600 series. But I'll give it a try. As far as CPU/GPU usage goes, My processor is definitely not pegged out, but my 580 is around 90% usage in game on Medium
I'll look at my usage when playing on High, but I think its the GPU that's struggling.
I was just curious to see what everyone else is experiencing. Obviously, being a beta and all, it's going to be a bit glitchy and buggy.

tbh that sounds about right for a 580 mate,

Best bet, get the beta drivers for any boost in performance.

I get 50~60 on highest settings 4x smaa with sli 580's, its just a demanding game but optimisation is pretty good all things considered.

my mates rig stutters on it and he has a 670gtx but he is trying to play it at 1600p.. 27 inch asus monitor... has to drop to medium settings to get 45/60fps i watched him play hunt on it this morning.

i loved the look of it hell of alot better than my 360 version which must be set to LOW on everything and is barly playable sub 30fps locked 1080p...

haha, xbox only plays 720 ^_^

I plan on getting a Shimian monitor that's just like the Catleap's out there. 27" 1440p. That should make my 580 feel super dated.

you should check that my xbox slim been playing 1080p since i got it and the new dashboard update added native 1080p upscaling on even older games

edit : image of the halo 4 game box looks it says "HDTV 720p 1080i 1080p"

fyi xbox 360 *renders* lower than 720p (i believe it's something like 640p ?) and UPSCALES this is NOT the same as native 1080p or even native 720p. Sorry boys

Very true people, same with the ps3 with the exception of a few games...

If you check what your mointors resolution during gameplay is, i bet it says only 720p, now this is still upscaled, you can prove this by just looking at Cod saying 1080p yet we all know its still a petty 640p:)

The xbox output will come out at 1080p/720p just fine, and will show that resolution on the screen. The issue is that's not what it's rendered at, it has very good upscaling but it's just not got anywhere near the kind of grunt required to run any games on the system at native 1080p (or 720p in some cases).

I like what Sony did with things like Wipeout HD where, to get 60FPS @1080p (natively) they halved the number of lines or something in the vertical space, because the game is moving so fast, you don't see it. THAT is clever (even if it is sneaky)

They got the power to, just the extreme lack of ram is a huge problem. With how games look on the 360 and Ps3 i am actually quite surprised on how good they look considering the got 512mb of ram

The ram doesn't really make a lot of difference, the GPU's in them just do not have the grunt for the amount of stuff going on or the amount of things on screen. Another 512mb or 1GB of ram isn't going to change that. Ram helps with screen size for textures and the frame buffer, but if the cards don't have the gonads to render the game (I'm talking bf3, farcry3, crysis 3 etc here) then it doesn't matter how much ram you tape to it. It just won't work at a higher resolution.

JUst reaffriming what sub says:

50-60 fps on gtx580 sli set up @ very high settings and 4X MSAA. I might get an extra 7/8 fps overclocking my cards from 780 stock to 900 mhz

Not true all the time, what your stating is more true in pcs. In consoles because they can be utilized to 100%,then this makes the ram on both systems a bottleneck, they could have more players on one map on ps3 if it had say 1gb of ram. The Cell processor in the Ps3 is so powerful it actually acts like another gpu which helps only if its programmed correctly. So really if it had more ram to take some load off the gpu and then they put it on the cpu, the cpu could use more ram to load whatever the programmer can achieve to free the gpu to do whatever needs to be done. Though the gpu is more powerful so this happens less but still does no doubt. I may sound like a know it all but honestly my Computer Science teacher has said this and would make alot of sense if you knew programming and etc. just unfortunatly there really is no way of showing you.
