In a surprise move but one that is understandable to some degree, 'alternative' sound card manufacturers Auzentech has become the first non-Creative Labs manufacturer to use Creative Labs audio chips. If you can't beat 'em...join 'em!

I can see this leading to very competitive pricing. (and a rush for Creative to realize their newest cards, whilst others buy their `older` chipset)

I`m hoping the mobo manufs follow suite with this, it`s sounds like they will/are, good quality onboard sound any1 ?

Like was said in the excerpt creative may just stop releasing products entirely and just develop new ones to sell to AiB partners. I'm not business minded at all but I'd say there's probably less risk and more profit in that type of business model.

I can`t see Creative dropping manufactur of end line products.

Just being a source of a chip is all well and good until somebody like perhaps Intel make a cheaper, as good, alternative, then u have no1 to sell to and nothing to make.

If however u were in financial trouble and had to downsize, dropping end line manufacturing would be a saving.

Are they actually going to make them avalible in the uk? I can't find any of the non-super expensive current ones here.

I like the X-FI onboard idea actualy. I hate wasting slots.
yea and no id rater not have my sound chip mounted on a 7ish layer complex PCB .... electrical noise

but ddl and eax > 2 :D -- joe happy

It would be great for me becasue all i ever use is pretty much onboard. I used to have an Audigy2 ZS Gamer or w/e but sold it and started using onboard. Just easier for me i guess. Dont like things taking up PCI slots. Sorta a pet peeve if you will.
