CPU upgrade question

Hello,
I'm looking to upgrade my CPU from a i3 2120 but I have a couple of questions.

I was thinking about getting either a i5 3570k as my current motherboard would support it.

Or I could get a i5 4670k but that would involve me having to buy a new motherboard as well as the processor.

A third option would be to get an i7 but i've heard that there is hardly any difference between an i5 and i7 for gaming fps.

Do you think that I'd notice much of a difference if any between these two processors?

Will I notice a big difference going from dual core to quad core? As I've never had a quad core pc before.

Thanks for looking!

Current PC:
Processor - i3 2120
RAM - 8gb corsair vengeance
Motherboard - MSI Z77A-G45
Graphics Card - 1536MB GeForce GTX 580 (EVGA)
HDD - 500GB Western Digital
PSU - 600 watt corsair CX600-2

For gaming there is no need for an upgrade to the Z87 chipset, nor an I7. Get the 3570K if your are planning to overclock - if no OC get the 3570.
Money left? Upgrade monitor and/or GPU maybe?

Cheers

Thanks for the reply. I've looked at the prices at it's only £15 more between the 3570 and 3570k which seems pretty cheap if their good at overclocking.

I could but the games that I play don't support SLI and are mostly cpu heavy. And I don't think that I could find another 580 like this one that hasn't been used.

I was thinking about maybe getting an SSD but I don't know how what to put on it and what not to. I know that the operating system is the main thing but what else would you put on the SSD if I were to get a good sized one?

Put the OS and most used programs on it. For example i have my OS,drivers,Office, and benchmarking software all on the ssd. To maintain a healthy drive here is a link to help keep it in tip top shape. Link

I have done nearly all these things and have expeirenced no issues.

Also i strongly advise going no lower than 120/128gb. You would be surprised how fast you will eat up space on those size drives. Always go for the biggest size you can.

Thanks!

I was thinking of getting a 256gb if I were to get a SSD as they seem cheap compared to what I remember them being before.

They will only get cheaper. 256gb is ideal especially for an OS drive, but depending on how much you need you may want a bigger drive. Games will eat it up very fast unfortunatly.
