CPU temp

I have a Q6600 and a Asus Maximus Formula board, i have it OC to 3.6 at 1.34V, i checked Coretemp and its sayin my CPU is at 72* when running orthos, but i checked the Asus Probe, and its sayin 57*, i dont know which one to trust.

I have a Scythe Infinity with a 120mm fan on it.

room temp is 32* (I live in barbados)

mmm 15 degrees in difference... this was a problem with apps earlier on. Not coretemp though. Speedfan comes to mind.

Its alwyas 15degrees lower than what coretemp displays for quads, so DL that and see what it comes up with :D If that and coretemp match, then there we go!

ahhh, QFT???? and TBH??? haha

i had the Q6600 in two other boards, one was as AW9d-Max, adn the Uguru would say 58max at load, and coretemp would be the same almost

waht has changed, it was pretty much the same settings as before same FSB and same Volts.

why has it gone for 57 to almost 75????

mayb too much thermal paste, i put arctis silver on, not the best one they have the Ceramique one.

TBH (lol) its my opinion that how you spread the paste makes just as much difference as 2 top performing pastes anyway.

Uguru can be terribly inaccurate also. My cpu runs @ 12 degrees load and idle :p according to uguru. *on air*

Coretemp is a winner m8.

waht does QFT and TBH mean ahah im a noob.

what i did, was put a pea size, and spread it thin thin thin with a razor, its like reallly thin, not thin enough to see thought to the metal, but it was more then i had before.

iam checkin my temps with Speedfan 4.33 as we speak

Yes, popular shortenings of normal words...quoted for truth and to be honest

You've either spread the paste wrong or installed the cooler incorrectly, CoreTemp is accurate and even stands up to being tested by accurate thermal probes

:p

i just ran orthos really quick to get a increase, i have coretemp and speedfan.

and they vary alot too.

see, does anyone know of any other good temp checkin programs,

so far two of them say 55 and one saw 77.

help me, i wnat to know if im slowly cookin my cpu or not haha.

Well like what has been said the most reliable is coretemp.. Others as you know are speedfan and asus probe thingamy.

One thing I would say is I wouldn't be looking for too high an overclock on a quad with air cooling. It would get toasty.

What I have read is that Coretemp hooks onto the temp reader actually touching the cores inside the CPU.

And most other programs use the motherboard diod.

I would believe Coretemp... And I would underclock your chip quick. WAY too hot in my opinion. ;)

is it mayb a error in Coretemp, beacuse i used the version before the one i had now, and on my other board it was saying 57 is the highest overclocked to 3.6 at 1.45V.

and Uguru said the same thing.

so i dont know. I think im going to reset the heatsink and apply new paste and make it thiner,(i think i put to much)

i will post pics so people can yell at me if im doing anything wrong
