CPU question

Hey guys,

Been some time since I posted something here, as lately it started feeling like I was just making myself look a fool for asking a lot and dumb questions...

Although I do kind have an idea of this, I do still want to ask it anyway. Partially to get a confirmation of what I'm thinking is correct.

I currently run an 6850K and an Asetek 545LC 92mm AIO cooler, and I know that going for an 8700K would be a sidegrade than anything... I still wanted to ask if it would be better in terms of thermals?.

Due to I will soon have a very small and limited case, in terms of the Dan Case A4 SFX v2, and therefore limited airflow. The 6850K is soldered but have an 140W TDP. The 8700K on the other hand is 95W, but non-soldered.

The question is: Would my current CPU have better thermals than the 8700K or not with this small AIO?...

Thanks,
Chrazey

Always remember Chrazey the only truly dumb question is the one you don't ask, as everyone has to learn and no one has the answers to all questions and you should keep posting.
Now with regards to your question I'm not really sure that you'd see a benefit in changing cpu's and might be better off staying as you are but someone with more experience than me may correct that assumption

Thank you for your post Excalabur, and thank you for your kind and ”pat on the back” comment. Much appreciated :)

I'm pretty sure that your current CPU will run cooler than the 8700K.

Having said that, it is still under an AIO, so it should be able to handle the 8700K almost as well.

Whether it would be worth the "upgrade", I personally wouldn't. But that's me, and i'm a *cough* frugal *cough*.

Just gaming? Look at the 8400 ;)

And for thermals, as long as you are below 85c i wouldn't see it as a problem.
You are probably running a blower card in the DAN case? If yes, that fan will go mental as well :D

Nahh, ASUS 1080 Strix OC version.

Side grade mate. Wait for a decent AM4 and get a 1700.

Like what? The new ASUS B370/X370 Strix ones?... They don’t have 7.1 audio out, not the ”native” connectors anyway.

Plus I feel a bit unsure and uncomfortable with some of the RAM issues etc with AMD still. As I have Corsair Vengeance 32GB ( 2 x 16 GB) 3000MHz ones and not sure how well they’ll do. As it’s been said that Ryzen loves fast(er) memory (3200MHz+).
