Hi guys, hoping you can help me out with a problem I'm having on a shuttle pc which is running a 3Ghz P4, 1GB mem, 300GB maxtor etc upon start-up from a cold boot it states cpu changed defaults loaded press del to enter setup F1 to continue... like what would happen if you were to clear cmos - this started happening out of the blue around 1 week ago. If you press F1 to continue it states boot failure due to the fact that default settings disables the sata ports making it look like no HD is connected.

As I said it only happens from a cold boot so I'm guessing its a bad battery? Once I've changed the BIOS settings all is fine until the next cold boot.

The system is running stock with no viruses, spyware etc and I have tried changing cables, HDs, mem etc

If it is the battery where can you buy replacements from?

Thanks, Nick.

I have the same problem with a P4 Asus board at the moment (P4800D). I tried replacing the battery, same thing. I'll try flashing the bios next, see if that works.

Some times this is caused by a bad pin connection. This could mean a snapped pin in worst case, to just a tiny bit of dust. If changing the battery or BIOS brings no luck - remove the CPU, ensure all the pins are intact and clean - then check the socket and get the Dyson out! :)

Thanks Zax and Stocky, will try these things out. Where did you buy your battery from Zax?

Stocky if it were a damaged cpu pin wouldn't I have had problems before now?

Probably, but it could be half snapped so that there is a connection, but just a poor one. Much more likely to just be contact due to dust/ dirt though!
