Couple of slight changes and now overclock unstable. Why?

I was running a Q9650 stable @ 1.3875V, 4Ghz for over 12 months.

However, Last week my soundcard packed up so I got an Asus D2X. Because the card was so long, I had to move one memory module over to the right so now instead of 2 x 2GB in dual channel I have 2 x 2GB running in single channel.

Over the past week I've been noticing the machine blue screening when in idling (ive left it on while I've been out somewhere and come back to a crash)

Ran Prime this morning and core4 failed after a hour or so. Temps never hit 50C

Have the mods caused extra strain on the NB so I have to increase North Bridge voltage or for some reason I need more vcore in single channel mode?

Not an expert, but I'd guess that using another lot of memory channels might turn on another controller on the chip. Thus chip needs more resources/volts and makes more heat.

Any chance of shifting the sound card down to one of the spare x16 slots? Should work fine in there. Then you can move the memory back.

I would have to put the 470 right at the bottom which would catch on the asus q connector, that is the only way to free up the other slot.

p45 chipset is just a fussy bitch mate, i found 1 chan was more stable than the other in mine when i push it hard.

you might need a little bump in volts for the mch or try dropping the timings, trd and trfc is where i would start.
