hi my name is marcus i have a set of corsair sp 120 quiet edition on my corsair h100 at the moment and i dont no if your be able to help me but what i am thinking of doing is replaceing the quiet edition for performance edition but i want to no is there much of a difference in temps and i will say now i do not mind about the noise and i will not be doing a volt drop or any think i will be pluging it in that is all :o

if you go back to our converstaion earlier about the fans, the perf editions did
have a temperature gain than the quiets. not as cool as the factory H100 fans,
but quieter and 4° warmer than the H100 fans...

so what your saying is that the perf editions will make it hotter not cooler
i dont see how that is right

stock H100 fan specs:
RPM: 2600rpm
CFM: 92cfm
Static Pressure: 7.7mm/h2o

SP120 performance:
RPM: 2350rpm
CFM: 63cfm
Static Pressure: 3.1mm/h2o

SP120 quite:
RPM: 1450rpm
CFM: 38cfm
Static Pressure: 1.29mm/h2o

the H100 is a high fin per inch radiator. 24 fins per inch rads need high rpm to
efficiently cool. the high static pressure drives the air-flow. the SP120 PE is
close to rpm, but static is less than half in pressure. next is amount of air delvered
is 30% shorter in CFM , so less air, less pressure to move it through the
fins, so it will run warmer than the H100 stock fans. again, refer to the older
post (LINKY) which this was explained and what to expect.

thanks so far

right ok i under stand all that but i am not asking that i am asking is there much in temps as the sp fans look a lot nicer and are a lot quieter and i am wait for my h100i to come also which have new fans with it so i am not not noing what to do

Right Deano is talking about the STOCK H100 fans not the quiet edition SP120's you have. That is whats confusing you.

The PE editions will run marginally cooler than the QE's.

The Stock H100 fans will run cooler than the PE's though.

You need to remember though its actually best NOT to plug the fans into the H100. run tha fan cables down the back of the mobo and plug them into a molex, if you want them quieter then use the fan speed reducer cables :)

couple of weeks ago i bought a pair of performence edition sp120´s, and i love them. they´re a bit loud without the fanspeed reducer cables, but if you use them they´re perfectly fine... and they look the doggy's danglies :)

What's wrong with it? I've never tryed it myself - I'm usining a fan external fan controller - but it should work or?

Noob badge for that too :)

It's just messy to use fan controllers and on board headers and fan controllers since you get way more cables than you need.

There's no need to change the fan speed dependent on what applications you're running, if you set your fans up properly at 7v or 5v anyway then they're quiet, and always quiet regardless of what programs you're running. Makes cabline a lot easier too...

Also, fan controllers and headsers can never put an entire 12v through a fan so you can never get maximum performance through it.
And, most fan controllers work by rapidly turning fans on and off rather than reducing the voltage, which can actually make the motors of certain fans click and add more noise than just running at 12v in the first place.

It's just easier, better and tidier to run fans straight from molex through fan speed reducers such as:

KK I understand your oppinion but on a 9 x 120 radiator you won't need 12v but you'll need a option to slow down the fans if the full power is not needet.

Exactly...
I'm not arguing you should run your fans at 12v...ever. But if you have something like a 9x120mm rad, that's most likely going to have massive headroom in your system and so your fans shouldn't really need to go above 5v ever.

Still, some people like the ability to change their fans all the time, others just prefer things to be fixed :)
No right or wrong, but in a small(ish) case it'll often just make a mess having a fan controller.

I always fix mine. if I want the rig quieter I use fan speed reducers simple as.

I actually HATE controllers, they make a rig so messy and hardly anyone bothers to make them look nice in their rigs.

I actually think they should be banned for any n000b with a window. Half the time it looks like Mario and Luigi just puked up their spaghetti dinner inside the case.

I do too now.
So much so that in looking for a new case I'm actually avoiding anything with a built in controller. I love the look of the Stryker, but the fan controller and LED on/off switches just put me off. I know I don't have to use them or anything, but I wouldn't cut the cables off, and to me they'd just look a mess. Same goes for the NZXT ranges.
