Hey guys!
I hope you all had a happy Christmass!
I took my time to build a new rig for a friend. He is going to use it for creative work, mainly doing 3D animation and After Effects rendering. For this you need extreme amounts of RAM and CPU power.
I outfitted this rig with a OSX compatible graphics card so it can do that too (not implying that it can
) .
It has the following specs:
Gigabyte UD3-R (will become an UD5)
Corsair H50 with one Noctua NFP12 set to suck air in. This is a very quiet and yet efficient way of cooling because the fan does not rattle against the fanguard so you won't hear it.
Intel i7 970 at 4.2Ghz
Corsair Dominator GT 12 GB
Spinpoint F103SJ
Corsair CX 430 (it works lovely!)
The front and top fan will be replaced by coolermasters since these are way too noisy and you cannot switch of the leds.
I had a lot of fun building this and keeping the cable management as good as possible.
Once I showed my mate the inside he thought I still needed to reconnect everything, he was quite surprised to see it boot up like that
.
So far the case keeps really cool and it has been handling the stresstesting very well
. I replaced the TIM on the H50 with XMS3, after it cured the temps never go above 72 degrees which is very cool in my opinion
. Weirdly the cooling performance is the same with the Noctua on the other side set to blow air through the radiator.
I hope you all had a happy Christmass!
