corsair 950WAT Power Supply.

just tried to x30 Multiplier from Bios now its showing me on CPU-Z Core Speed 4005.6 MHz Bus Speed 133.5 QPI Link 3204.2

Best Regards

If your aiming for 4.6 then 23x 200 would be a good place to start, the 200 bus would alow you to set the ram devide for 1600mhz that your rams rated for and most i7's can get 200 bus fairly easy, sadly i dont have any first hand experience with x58 so i cant help all that much.

+1, if you're wanting to go higher this is what you need to do.

Just tried x22 with 195 its 4.3MHz

Temperature 68-70C

if i try more is it ok to push this one or any thing bad can happen ?

i've no idea thats y im making sure before doing anything.

Go for it mate your never really gunna see them temps in real life unless you work the ass of you pc 24/7

x22 with x200 not loading error of OC

x22 195 is working fine @ 4297.1 MHz

@ cooler master its gonna be 24/7 use of this poor baby :)and real test for V10

That's a 980x not the 990x!

On topic: If that's stable thats a good OC but see if you can mess with it a bit to get a higher base clock i.e. 190 x 24 or 200 x 23

check this new stuff wow in the name panel its showing 980x

and in specification pannel its showing 990x wat is this new bug of intel core i7 990x or intel is trying to loot ppl

Its an old version of CPU-Z thats why

You need a lower multi and a higher BCLK btw. 1366's do need tweaking to get high and stable.

But thats the reason you bought it right? To play and learn?

thx i'll try this

any idea wat is a good figure for this

and one more question is there any problem for board if i do this stuff ..

I have a similar rig to Zam4design's. The most stable clock I have managed to achieve uses a BCLK of 180 with a multiplier of 24. This has me stable at 4.33GHz with Hyperthreading enabled. My memory is running at 1804MHz (Triple Channel Ripjaw 2000MHz F3-16000CL9T-12-GBRM Kit x2 9-10-9-28). This is my first attempt at building a computer of this type. I have been putting computers together and maintaining them for years as a DST, however these where generic workstations for organisations. Not a great deal to play with there.

I believe I can increase my OC further quite easily but I will require water cooling for the graphics cards and CPU. The 990x is a monster of a CPU, it could quite happily breath fire if you tell it too and the two Asus 480 GTX's seem to be happy running under load with their own OC at around 60, 70, 80 and 90 degree's C. All of this needs some serious water cooling if you really want to test them.

I am really overwhelmed by the amount of options I get in the BIOS with this rig. I have been trying to figure out and understand what each individual setting does but there is little in the way of an explanation in the ASUS manual. I would like to get my OC to around 4.6, I'm just not sure if I can do it on air cooling with HT on?

Can i just ask what in hell's name do you need 24GB ram for? LOL

Sure, a lot of people do lol. I'm not just a gamer, I've been doing a computer and network management degree. I have been studying virtualisation, SAN's, routing, switching, security and network infrastructure amongst other things. I thought I'd give it all a go at home so I built a beast. It's running Packet Tracer, GNS3 and VMware Workstation 7 because I wanted to investigate creating a virtual network infrastructure. Switchs and routers in packet tracer and GNS3, plus VMs in VMware all seem to consume more memory than anything else so I maxed it out. Probably would have been better off with a sandy bridge 2600K but only had a 990x at the time, the processors a fine piece of technology so no problems there. I'm running 2 virtual servers (2003 & 2008) and around a dozon XP workstations virtually. It was all very interesting but I've finished the course now and am sat at home gaming until I get my results lol.

Thats about the only thing you could possibly utilise that much memory for, why not hey lol??
