If they can get the air coolers to beat the low end watercoolers, that would be quite an achievement. I wonder how hot these Sandy Bridge E's will run, I doubt its too hot, but lets see.
 
supposely your going to see up to 12 core / 24 thread 22nm chips before threw out the life of the socket.

myself ill be picking up 1 of the 6 core k series so its still unlocked but isnt a fortune, and will be picking up an extreme 8 core 22nm early spring

What mobo chipset will the i7-3960x use and will it be the same used for the upcoming 8 and possible 12 core CPU's?

Socket - LGA 2011 (2011pins)

Chipset - X79

Will be the same for the upcoming 8 core CPUs. 12 cores might be on a new chipset or even a new socket, who knows.
