CoolerMaster

Hey guys,

So I used to buy the CoolerMasterHyper 212 EVO or 212X, but its all out of stock (EOL?).

So whats the replacement equivelant of the 212 EVO or 212X

Needs to be lightweight - I dont want something really heavy hanging off the board (which is why I used to go 212X).

Cheers in advance.

Not sure where you are, but I've just checked Scan, Amazon and eBuyer for the 212 evo and its all in stock. and around the £23-28 mark

edit.....
ok, ebuyer is discontinued.....
scan are due to have them today so maybe your best bet.....
Amazon is overpriced..
lastly eBay could be good

As an alternative though the Thermalright True Spirit 120M, I think its the M version....
I have this M version cooler in my AMD rig, I couldn't fit a 212evo into the case, but thus M version is a slightly lower version than the standard one offering similar performance.

Hm, the 212 EVO is in stock everywhere in the Netherlands..

If not caring about the weight, which I personally wouldn't understand it'd be a problem, I would go for the Shadow Rock 2 - looks good, cools great, doesn't cost much, although it costs some more than the 212 EVO.

@TheOuterOne - I am mounting two on a dual CPU board - and it will need to ship internationally at one point - so hence concerned about weight.

I might look into how heavy the Shadow Rock 2 is compared to the CoolerMaster.

If this is for your personal use, than make no compromises, and just take off the coolers, when being shipped. I mean, you would have to remove the GPU anyway (at least I would recommend that). If it's for a customer or something like that, then you are right about the whole weight thing.

Yes it is personal.

Dual Xeon - what cooler's do you recommend then? (Nothing noctua as I hate the colors).

I just am concerned about any warp or twist etc if anything is too heavy.

The Shadow Rock 2 is about 220% heavier than the CoolerMaster Hyper 212X

(I assume you meant remove the CPUs)

Shipping a motherboard with a cooler attached is very very risky...especially aftermarket ones like hyper 212 evo,

you'd be better off using stock units to transport and getting the coolers on the international side.

Being a personal pc, you will want to remove the video card / Sound card if any, as well as the CPU cooler....before sending.... the less flex in the board and sockets the better

What about 120mm AIO liquid coolers? Do cost a bit more, but the weight is attached to the case instead of the motherboard.

Alternatives for the Hyper 212 Evo (which is in stock everywhere I checked) could be the Hyper T4 or the Hyper 412S.

Maybe I will just stick with the Intel Thermal Solution for the Xeons.

Also i have a roadcase that it (the tower) will go in for shipping so I was hoping that would be ok to travel in without having to take it all apart (such as GPUs). - Any thoughts?

Yeah I have given some thought to perhaps those (Corsair ones). Undecided to be honest. I guess whats the likely hood that when setup in an aircraft hold they may leak or have issues?

As you can imagine Id rather not have to take the whole thing apart when shipping since it will be in a proper roadcase and itd just be annoying to take it apart and put back together (if it can be avoided).

An AIO would solve the weight issue - its just i never trust those things as I have seen them leak and Corsair not pay out 100% on the parts damaged.

Best option so far seems Intel Thermal Solution.

I've never had any issues transporting my PCs with large heatsinks on.

If you put it flat on its side so the heatsink's facing up whenever you transport it, then you really shouldn't have any problems.

I used to have a Noctua NH-U12S which performed really well considering its size. You could always get that and change the fans.

Unfortunately the way the roadcase works (proposed to) the tower stands up in it - because the case then turns into a workstation. The side come off and become like desk tops.

All the roadcase will do is protect the outside. Any vibration or drops will severely stress the motherboard if the coolers and cards are fitted. You should definitely remove them for international freight, especially as baggage handlers aren't exactly known as the most gentle and caring of folk.

Well when it comes time Ill post a separate thread for suggestions.

For now I might just stick with the Intel Thermal Solution and worry about something else later. But I think I will avoid liquid AIO because of the potential leaks and the fact they dont cover you for that.

Anyway - to get back on track, other than a Cooler Master - what else do we think could be good? ASUS "recommend" the Dynatron R17.
