CoolerMaster Storm Trooper?

Hey guys

In the next few weeks i'll be retiring my old Cm Centurion 5(Build link) and buying a new case. Initially I was looking at the HAF X, then the Storm Trooper started showing up. It seems to be an awesome case with huge customizability and will last me many years worth of upgrades. Being able to fit multiple radiators(two dual) and the possibility of a quad radiator is a huge plus for me especially when we're on the verge of SB-E release.

However, I was in my local shop the other day and spotted the 600T, and isn't she lovely. I questioned myself whether this may be a better option( albeit being $20 more than the ST). Realistically I never see myself buying XL-ATX mobo's or using more than 2 graphics cards, do I need a full tower case? I really dont think i'll ever use it to the fullest.

What do you guys think? Do you have any experience with the storm trooper or opinions? Or do you think I'll be better off with the 600T.

Hi there,

Will you be going all out with a custom water loop or are you planning to have a bit of both, air/water cooling? There's 9 PCI slots, so I'm guessing this case is pretty much a full tower. I think you should try to pick something that you'll be using a lot of currently or in the future. Being a full tower you'll have the ability to mount multiple video cards if that's also one of your aims. It does look like an interesting case. I think the Corsair 650D, 400/500R are other great choices as well.

Regarding cooling I think ill be water-cooling the CPU, leaving the rest to air. Purchasing a midtower now i believe will restrict me in the future so based on this I think the Storm Trooper would be perfect for me. Cheers

Will you be making a custom loop yourself or will you be getting the all-in-one maintenance free types like the Corsair H80/H100? I think something like the Corsair 650D would be great for your needs as well. You'll be able to fit a thicker 240mm radiator at the top with push/pull. Air cooling in that case isn't a problem even with multiple video cards.

If you're just planning to water cool the CPU only, the Fractal Desing Arc Midi is also a good case, even for being a mid size chasis. It's spacious and allows for tall RAM as well.

Ill preferably get a XSPC Rasa Rx240 kit. Its cheap and comes with everything that is needed. Ill have a look at the 650d and fractal. Cheers mate.

The RX series wouldn't fit in a 650d. The newer rads XSPC have brought out (the ex series) is supposedly as thin as the RS series with the performance of the RX rads.

Thanks, I wonder if the fins are so densely packed that it might be significantly noisier?

There are 30 fins per inch on the EX as apposed to the 8 FPI on the RX so you will need your fans turned up high.

Looking at that comparison it's within 5*c of the RX you might have to have your fans on full but if you have good fans that's not going to matter, you can always turn them down when you on idle plus the EX is £40 cheaper and slimmer giving you more case option.

What fans would you guys reccomend for high density radiators?

Scythe AP-29's for high density. AP-15's for low density. There are more powerful fans of course, but the noise level goes from moderate to INSANE pretty quickly.

I'd go with the Storm Trooper if you plan to water cool. The Corsair 500R is an excellent choice if you only want an H100 or smaller tourist kit.
