Coolant colour ?

Dicehunter

Resident Newb
My XSPC items will be arriving on Tuesday and it comes with coolant that has a blue tinge to it, Now as a lot of my fellow OC3D'ers here know, I'm a Razer whore

What I would prefer is to have clear coolant so then the lights from the inside of the case can shine through making the tubing look green without the need of actually getting coloured coolant, But I'm unsure which one to get.

Also should I put anything else into the loop/res i.e silver coil etc... ?

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated :)

There is nothing wrong with using Deionised/Distilled water, just be sure that you add something to it which will kill the micro-organisms that form algae, and (ideally) add something which will inhibit/remove any chance of corrosion.

Personally, i'm running a loop with de-ionised water, with Primochills Liquid Utopia added to it, which is an anti-corrosive AND anti-fungal agent. Because of this, nothing else is needed: no silver coil, or anything else.

Be aware though, that while de-ionised water STARTS de-ionised when first put into your loop, it WILL pick up ions after circulating a few times, as such it will NOT maintain it's non-conductive state.

Thanks very much for the info bud, Is there any coolant that doesn't get ionised over time ?

I would suspect not, but I am certainly not 100% positive (ha! pun!) on this.

My suspicion is based on the basic properties of water, and the knowledge that almost all coolant uses water (of some sort) as its base ingredient, or alcohol - which I personally would avoid since alcohol (anything with the -ol suffix for that matter) damages plastic over time - and you will be using plastic tubes, if nothing else.

Doesn't feser or Mayhem do a pure distilled coolant?

Regarding the positivity effect of the water. I think you will be fine if you are one of those who regularly (every few months or so) rips the loops apart to clean blocks and replaced coolant.

If you used green coolant with green lights it would all just look wrong imho - just bleaches out.

I actually think you need to get black fittings and black hose and or black coolant to add some contrast

Need some guidance here guv, How about black fittings with clear tubing and clear coolant ?

Feser one do a clear coolant that's glycol based so won't require any additives etc.

That would be perfect in clear and/or black tubing. (and it's what I intend to use when I rebuild my rig)

Awesome thank you, It will be going through clear tubing, I want to see my water ^_^

Clear coolant will just catch the green from the LED's - you can have too much colour so its either go black coolant.

OR

Change LED strips to white and just have green accents.

I cant stress enough too much of one colour just looks terrible.
