Converting DDC Ultra to use PWM header

Hi,

Picked up a bargain DDC Ultra/res combo (12 months old).

I want to combine the molex and sensor wires onto a single PWM header. I don't want to run a single molex cable from my psu just for this, I want a nice clean look and to run the pump via the CPU PWM header.

I found an example where someone had done it but now I can't find it. Pretty sure I didn't imagine it...

Can someone confirm this is do-able/gtg?

Cheers

The DDC Ultra draws 1.5A at 12V, which I think may be quite high for motherboard headers. Typically headers are rated at a nominal 1A, but obviously it's not just going to explode above that value. It varies by motherboard so it would be worth seeing if it is within reason to try it.

The pinouts of the PWM header and molex connector are shown here

So you'd just stick the pump's 12VDC cable to the CPU FAN PWR pin, and the pump's COM to the header's GND. I don't see any reason why it should be a problem, apart from the current draw potentially.

I've used a 4 pin Molex Female to 3 pin fan header on a DDC and had it running off my fan controller with no probs. Not sure if it will work the same hooking it up to the motherboard though.

Cheers lads. Thought it should be okay.

I'll have a look for the mobo specs; Asus Gene V

So it arrived; it only has the blue sense/rpm wire so I guess the same rules apply if I want to add the 12VDC and GND to the existing 3 pin fan header? Or do I need to swap out the 3 pin header for a PWM? Cheers
